Topic: Where is TotalMix (and the settings page)?

With the Fireface UCX 400, you get:
- the mixer software, TotalMix;
- the settings page for the unit.

If I quit these apps, I can't find them back if I want to re-open them. The only thing I found is a RME folder installed in Program Files, and 2 apps are inside:
- the remote feature of TotalMix (TotalMixRemote);
- another software provided by RME (DigiCheck).

Where is TotalMix? I can only get it back when I reboot. Same thing for the settings page.

I also have a RME Fireface 800 on another computer, and both apps can be found where they should be.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Where is TotalMix (and the settings page)?

Why do you close these applications ? This is not the intended "way of operation".
You need TM FX and driver settings not only for your DAW or applications with ASIO support.
Think about RME WDM drivers for Windows and Windows sound ... The interface settings and digital mixer is for audio of the whole PC, ASIO and WDM for OS and applications without ASIO support.

Nevertheless, the paths are:
C:\Windows\System32\TotalMixFX.exe
C:\Windows\System32\madifaceusb.exe

There are many ways to find the executeables:
1. using windows search on the C-drive and guessing the names "totalmix", "madiface".
2. looking into taskmanager->autostart, there you find entries for both programs and rightclicking to it gives you the file path.

Re: Where is TotalMix (and the settings page)?

Hi ramses!
I remember you helping me back in 2016 on this forum in another thread! Thanks again!

I know closing these apps aren't the intended way of operation. I just like to know where my stuff is located, if I ever need to close them.
Sometimes, rarely though, they don't load, or my computer might bug making these apps to go away, or I can just close them by mistake. Things like that. It would be bad if I'd need to reboot Windows just to make them load again.

I've rarely used the search bar in Windows. I never find anything in the past with that and at some point I just stop using it, a long time ago. So it didn't even cross my mind to use it. But I did try it for fun and TotalMixFX showed up.

I wasn't aware about the Task Manager trick.

I also have another question for you. If you don't know, I'll just create another thread.

I really like the integrated effects with TM FX. I read on this forum that RME made TM FX available to interfaces that date back to 2001 if I remember correctly. I have another RME interface, a Fireface 800. Does that mean I can operate TM FX with it? It currently works with TM (not FX). When I go on the downloads section of this site, under the Fireface 800 (for Windows), the links there doesn't get me TM FX, but only TM (also the drivers and manual). Is my interface too old? Or did I not understand correctly what RME said in the first place?

Thanks!

Re: Where is TotalMix (and the settings page)?

TotalMix FX is only the new product name after an overhaul of TotalMix some years ago.

For FX effects you need a special HW on your interface. This posting contains a list of interfaces with FX chip:
https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?pid=180197

What TotalMix FX brings additionally to you, is the use of the ARC USB even for interfaces (back to ~2001) where a remote was initially not in scope. Then you connect the ARC USB to the PC and TotalMix FX does the interfacing between ARC USB and the interface.

I understand.
My Fireface 800 isn't listed there, so this explains that.
Thanks again!

I listed only the current interfaces which are available on the market.
Also an UFX has a full implementation of FX chip, but e.g. FF800/400 do not have.
