Topic: No relay click for +24dBu reference level?

So I just installed the latest firmware and noticed there is no relay click when the reference for 1/2 out changes from +19dBu to +24dBu or back from +24dBu to +19dBu.  Neither in auto reference mode nor selecting the reference manually.

Is that normal?  And if it's not is it my unit or something with the new firmware?  I don't have older firmware available to go back and check.

Re: No relay click for +24dBu reference level?

It's normal and has been answered by MC long time ago. the 24 dbu level is not based on a relay, but analog switches, which make no sound.

It also has nothing to do with firmware versions. Older units (Pro and Pro FS) have more analog switches and are more silent:-)

See https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=29489

Analog switches are much cheaper, quieter, more energy efficient, and occupies less space.

RME uses them when there's no degradation in audio performance.

Thank you.  Just checking.

(And yes, I should have done a search.  Oops.)
