Topic: Facetime using UFX etc

Hi,

I want to use my UFX as main audio in-/output.

Setup:

Macbook pro <-> port replictor <- Jabra USB conference mic/speaker
<- Logitec Stream cam via USB
<- UFX via USB <- mics for drumset
                                             <- HDMI monitor

Problem:
In macOS MIDI setup FF UFX is visible as interface, the audio input/output is also presented, channel list as well, but no activation possible iot have my UFX as main audio in-/output device configurable per channel.

What I did:
While a running Facetime session (with ipad of my wife) ->
I unplugged all other USB audio possibilities to exclude that other devices are prioritised. But still no UFX activation possible.

I am sure that I am not the only one having this challenge. I also checked all entries re Facetime and some recommendations re Loopback function. But did not find a solution there.

Thanx in advance for any help on this.

Hi community,

I assume that I am not the only one having the challenge with FaceTime and looking for a solution.

Anyone out there with a solution on this???

Many thanx

Re: Facetime using UFX etc

Maybe not related, but I had a similar problem with Zoom- selecting my UCX II as the input yielded no sound. What worked for me was to set the UCX II as the system sound input, then set the Zoom input to "Same as system". I see Facetime has an option "Use system setting", maybe give this a try.

It's not clear what you are trying to do?
Are you saying you want to use a XLR microphone connected to the UFX as the mic for Facetime?

First of all, thanx for the question and your comment.

Secondly, YES, I want to use any connected UFX mic to be used as audio input to facetime, so that my counterpart can hear me and the drums via this input.

Third, .... and it goes without saying that the UFX to be also audio output for facetime.

That was one important hint and worked in combination with ANOTHER IMPORTANT SWITCH in Totalmix:

LOOPBACK -> NEED TO BE SWITCHED ON IN MAIN

I just found out.

Re: Facetime using UFX etc

SUMMARY FOR USING RME AUDIO INTERFACES WITH FACETIME:

1. audio interface to be switched on
2. audio interface to be activated in MacOS system settings at least as audio input
3. in FaceTime VIDEO menue -> set MICROPHONE to USE SYSTEM SETTING -> ouput can be chosen as wanted
4. and MOST IMPORTANT -> in TOTALMIX switch on LOOPBACK IN MAIN (OUTPUT)

I tested this between a second Apple device from another person.
