Topic: Babyface Pro FS - ADI-2 Pro FS connection

I used both ADI-2 Pro FS and Babyface Pro FS devices on two different computers until recently and was quite happy with them. Until I came up with the idea of connecting them to have the best of both devices in one workplace. Something is wrong with the connection and ADI-2 is not getting a signal from BF.
The signal chain looks like this: PC - USB cable - BF -2 Toslink cables (in>out, out>in) - ADI-2 - audio cables - monitors.

ADI-2 Pro:

Clock Source - INT

Sample rate of both devices is set to 48k.

Obviously I missed or forgot something, but what? :-/

Re: Babyface Pro FS - ADI-2 Pro FS connection

Suggest to check basic mode settings of your ADI-2 Pro.
Here are the settings that I use.
https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/Ent … our-Setup/

On the clock master (BBF Pro) you need to set "internal", this makes a device to a clock master, to use it's own clock and to send clock information out on all it's digital ports, in this case ADAT OUT.

On the ADI-2 Pro, which is a clock slave in this setup, you need to configure on which digital input you will receive clock information and this is not "internal" this is the ADAT input:
Options -> Clock Source -> Auto might work otherwise configure explicitely SPDIF (but NOT internal).

The routing looks good, you assigned AS1/2 to "Main Out" to get this port into the control room and
the submix of AS1/2 looks good as well, the fader of e.g. SW playback AN1/2 - where you have an audio signal - is set to 0dB.

Thank you for the fast answer.
I tried changing the clock settings as you said, unfortunately that didn't help. Although in this video the clock settings are set vice versa. BF - optical in, ADI-2 - INT.

Neither gets me any further, ADI still gets no signal from BF. :-(

Re: Babyface Pro FS - ADI-2 Pro FS connection

Is the TOSLINK cable ok ?
You can check TOSLINK cable itself by performing a loop test, plug 1 cable to ADAT IN/OUT on BBF and check in the driver settings whether you see that clock synchs.

Is the cabling ok ?
BBF Pro ADAT OUT -------> ADI-2 Pro ADAT IN ?

What does the State overview on the ADI-2 Pro tell ?
Is clock Source SPDIF ?
What is the status of SP op? Similar to (clock might be 48 in your case, and protocol spdif):
SP op sync 44.1 adat 16

Can you post a
- screenshot of BBF Pro driver settings
- picture of ADI-2 Pro State Overview

Positive. Both cables are ok, but I ordered two more to be on the safe side.

Absolutely.

Re: Babyface Pro FS - ADI-2 Pro FS connection

Turn SRC (sample rate conversion) off or set it to another digital input.

Options -> SPDIF / Remap Keys -> SRC -> OFF | AES In

For SRC to work it would need clock source set to internal.
But we want to clock synch with the BBF Pro through ADAT.
No SRC needed here as we want to use the clock from the BBF Pro.

No changes :-(

Re: Babyface Pro FS - ADI-2 Pro FS connection

There is a change, the status of SP op changed from lock to synch.
Which means now you have a synchronized connection.
BBF Pro is clock master and ADI-2 Pro gets clock from ADAT as clock slave.

Now you should check in TM FX to actually send audio to the port AS1/2.
On ADI-2 Pro check in the Global Level Meter display whether you get audio in on port SPDIF (3rd bar)
and whether audio is being send to either AN1/2 or AN3/4.

Jetzt hat es geklappt, wow. Vielen-vielen Dank für Ihre Zeit und Geduld!
Ich war schon am Verzweifeln. :-D

Changing the SRC setting is not necessary. It would work either way.

Re: Babyface Pro FS - ADI-2 Pro FS connection

Thanks for the info, this was the only visible difference to my working setup, when it was still not running,
so I thought this could be an issue for him.

Re: Babyface Pro FS - ADI-2 Pro FS connection

O_o
Then I don't understand anything. After disabling SRC everything finally worked.
Although I have to admit that I set the TM settings to default parallel to this step.
Anyway, thanks @ramses for your help. After long attempts I was about to give up.

True, works for me for all settings:
Options -> SPDIF / Remap Keys -> SRC                        -> Off | AES In | SPDIF In

Some of my settings for comparison (ADI-2 Pro FS R BE, firmware v115):

Options -> Clock                        -> Clock Source          -> SPDIF
Options -> Device Mode / DSD   -> Basic Mode            -> AD/DA
Options -> Device Mode / DSD   -> CC-Mode               -> Multichannel
Options -> Device Mode / DSD   -> Dig. Out Source     -> Default
Options -> Device Mode / DSD   -> Auto Standby        -> OFF
Options -> Device Mode / DSD   -> DSD Direct 1/2       -> OFF
Options -> Device Mode / DSD   -> DSD Filter              -> 50 kHz
Options -> Device Mode / DSD   -> DSD Detection       -> ON
Options -> SPDIF / Remap Keys -> SPDIF In                 -> Auto
Options -> SPDIF / Remap Keys -> SRC                        -> Off | AES In | SPDIF In (works all)
Options -> SPDIF / Remap Keys -> SRC Gain dig.         -> 0dB
Options -> SPDIF / Remap Keys -> Optical Out            -> ADAT
Options -> SPDIF / Remap Keys -> Remap Keys          -> ON
Options -> SPDIF / Remap Keys -> VOL (1)                  -> Toggle View
Options -> SPDIF / Remap Keys -> I/O (2)                   -> Toggle Ph/Line
Options -> SPDIF / Remap Keys -> EQ (3)                   -> EQ+B/T+Ld1-4
Options -> SPDIF / Remap Keys -> SETUP (4)              -> Mute all
                  [...]
Options -> Phones                     -> Dual Phones          -> ON
Options -> Phones                     -> Bal Phones Mode   -> OFF
Options -> Phones                     -> Toggle Ph/Line       -> 3/4

USB is only connected for firmware upgrade purposes, therefore I configured Basic Mode -> AD/DA.
