Topic: Mac OS12.4, M1 panic kernals, Babyface Pro

Hello,

I have a Mac Mini, M1, running OS 12.4 and am using a Babyface Pro.  I am running into the problem of the computer restarting because it goes into panic mode when booting up due to the RME drivers.  It did this using OS12.3, but following the directions on the RME site, it fixed the problem. After updating to 12.4, the problem came back, and after reinstalling the drivers, I run into a problem on step 4:

"Before the reboot for finishing the driver installation open System Preferences, Security & Privacy, tab General. There should be a grey „Allow“ button in the right lower area. Click the unlock symbol first, then confirm using the RME GmbH kernel extension."

There is no "Allow" button for the RME GmBH kernal extension, so maybe this is why it keeps happening on 12.4?

I am getting around the problem by disconnecting the Babyface Pro before starting the computer, and then plugging it in after the computer has fully loaded.

Any advice would be much appreciated, so I dont have to keep unplugging and plugging in the babyface.

Hi I updated the drivers to those in the link, but now its even more buggy!  When I have the babyface connected and start the comupter, it gets stuck on a black screen.

Connecting after boot is ok.  Works normally.

Hmm, very strange.  Yes I have firmware v200 and driver 4.04.

Can you guess why its only the BabyFace Pro that is cause the startup problems?  As when I unplug it and turn on, the mac mini starts fine.  Could the babyface pro be triggering something else thats causing the problem?

I can not guess. But if you really want to find out store your current hard drive state in a backup and reinstall macOS from scratch. Then add the 4.04 driver and the BF Pro. It should work. Then slowly add all the apps, tools and utilities etc that are not part of the macOS  base install. One of them might trigger this. Not to mention that if you did all this you might end up with a still working system...

Would it be possible that if I copied the code in the Apple problem report that happens after the buggy startup, you or someone at RME could see what the problem is?
