Topic: Babyface Pro FS + Fireface 800 ADAT issues.

Hello,

I've searched through various posts and did not find an exact answer to my question yet.

I am using a Babyface Pro FS connected to a Windows 10 computer. The Babyface is connected via ADAT 1 ports to my old Fireface 800. (Babyface <-- Adat Out Adat In--> Fireface 800
Babyface <-- Adat In Adat Out--> Fireface 800)
From what I have found on the forums I believe I have this configured correctly. When I open fireface usb settings for the babyface it is running the main internal clock and detects ADAT and lists "Sync @ 48kHz" (I've also tried 44.1kHz). As for the configuration of my old Fireface 800, I used my mac laptop to set it into stand-alone mode via fireface settings and it is also synced to the Babyface Pro FS.

I am trying to use some analog equipment via balanced line inputs on the rear of my fireface 800(as I had configured previously, inputs 1-3) They still work when connected to my mac and signal is definitely coming through the analog equipment and RME fireface 800, but nothing in Totalmix FX aside from AN1.

My issue is trying to route this signal to ADAT 1-8 channels in my Babyface Pro FS or even to Fireface 800 ADAT 1. I believe there is some major misunderstanding I have about the capabilities of ADAT or the routing in Totalmix FX. I have seen some videos where people use a similar expansion and it seems to work fine for them.

Things I have tried: My optical out is set to ADAT. I've tried ticking TMS on and off, changing WDM devices. I've tried every single input including the front pre-amps on the Fireface 800 to no avail, even using a simple line cable DI with guitar. I've tried reversing the ADAT Ins and Outs. I've tried both on Mac and PC.

If anything is too vague in my description please let me know. If you can offer any guidance regarding this issue I would be very grateful thank you.

It's a s easy as routing the analog inputs to ADAT Out and ADAT In to the analog outputs. Then (and you did not mention that you did) you need to store the TM state into the FF800. Flash in Settings does not include the mixer state.

The factory preset 1 is such a routing, as explained in the manual. Then store this via Store Current State into Device in TM FX Options menu.

Thank you very much for the concise explanation. I'm all good now. Maybe it was because I didn't route both the ADAT Out and In channels... nonetheless, thank you thank you thank you!!!

Re: Babyface Pro FS + Fireface 800 ADAT issues.

Hello, sorry to bother, I recently purchased a BBF Pro FS and I'm looking to expand the number of inputs and outputs via optical Adat cables. I wanted to see if purchasing a used Fire face 800 would allow me to do this and it seems that it does, according to this post. My question would then be, if I don't have any FireWire inputs in my computer, could I still configure the Fireface 800 to work as an external stand alone expansion unit for my Babyface Pro? Or would I need a FireWire input so I can configure it properly? Thanks.

You need a firewire port or a thunderbolt USB-C port plus 2 Apple adapters

Thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2

thunderbolt 2 to Firewire

unfortunately this adapter seems to be out of production you may need luck to find one.
