Topic: When will there be an RME 1U M16-16 PRO Converter? 16 ins 16 Outs

I have tested and tried the most up to date M-32 PRO Series A/D and D/A converters in a studio I sometimes work in. They sounded great. However, for my home studio 32 of just A/D or 32 of D/A is not only out of my budget but is way too many channels for my needs. I need 16 ins and 16 outs.  The closest thing at the moment is the 1610 but that does not have 16 outs. It was 8 (or 10) if you include the headphones output. I have used combinations of UFX and Ferrofish Converters in the past but I prefer to just have 1 device for my 16 in and 16 out console.  I wasn't that fond of the Ferrofish D/A conversion compared to the RME converters. I know there other ways around this but I would have instantly bought the 1610 if it was actually a "M1616". Maybe it wasn't technically possible in 1U... I don't know but it would be great.

Thanks.

Yes something like a M-32 Pro ADDA with 16x AD and 16x DA in one RU would be great .. and I like the light organ ;-)

Re: When will there be an RME 1U M16-16 PRO Converter? 16 ins 16 Outs

I only signed up to the forum over the weekend. I've been using RME products for over 10 years and never had a technical issue or contacted customer support for anything in the last decade because that is how rock solid RME products have been for me. I only signed up just to say that I would really appreciate an RME M PRO 16 in / 16 out (in a single 1U device). Every other option requires too much money (i.e buying 1 M32 PRO A/D and buying 1 M32 PRO D/A). To achieve the 16 in and 16 outs also means linking several devices together which can also be annoying. I thought about the M1610 but the fact that is doesn't have 16 rear outputs and only 8 stopped me from purchasing it.

+1!

Or even an Octamic II, but with D/A, as well ! (Octamic III, maybe? smile )

Re: When will there be an RME 1U M16-16 PRO Converter? 16 ins 16 Outs

Base model with SFP, supporting MADI
- "light organ"
- Ports 1..8 with XLR / TRS Combo Plugs and DB-25 Tascam plug
- Ports 9..16 with DB-25 Tascam Plug
- 3-4 Ref Levels per port (maybe consumer level per digital gain)
- 4x ADAT
- MADI (per SFP slot)
- MIDI
- Word Clock
- redundant PSU
- SFP Slot for Single and Multimode modules (copper/fiber)
- 1-2 headphone outputs
- Firmware upgrades for AVB, Dante, Ravenna (using SFP)
Option:
- Perhaps 2nd SFP to integrate MADI into AVB or Dante or Ravenna?

Also highly relevant for Dolby Atmos: 7.4.1 needs 12 channels ADDA and a lot of rooms are currently being set up. RME has nothing catering to that market.

+1 for 16 in 16 out PRO.

Please including the nice looking and useful level meters in the front that you can easily watch from the distance
and magnetic mount for labels in the front like all M-32 Pros have.

Please keep
- MIDI ports, if possible not as breakout cable, then it would be possible to control the device remotely via MIDI, e.g. to switch reflevels, trim gain. Maybe you get the room if DB-25 plugs could be placed 2+2 instead of 1+1+1+1.
- reference levels "per port", at minimum the existing three: +13 dBu, +19 dBu, +24 dBu.
If possible a fourth: +4 dBu, that would be a win to reach consumer level easier by trim gain, if needed

Proposal - like on all other newer MADI/AVB devices like M-1610 Pro and 12Mic:
- MADI port SFP based to be more flexible in terms of cabling (multi-/single-mode)
- 1-2 Phones outputs (see 12Mic, M-1610 Pro, XTC, ...)
- redundant network port (primary/secondary) which fits better to the concept of having redundant PSU already

Maybe something additional:
- 4x ADAT I/O then this device could be used by recording interfaces (also 3rd party) without MADI, with at least 2-4x ADAT I/O
- 4x AES I/O (nice to connect other devices digitally like e.g. reverb units, ADI-2 *Pro*

Prio in that order.

Re: When will there be an RME 1U M16-16 PRO Converter? 16 ins 16 Outs

+1 for 16 I/O PRO in a 1U rack.

I would love to be able to use one RME unit for 16 channels of analog summing. Ideally with AES I/O to connect ADI-2 Pro. I have been wanting a solution like this from RME for years. Many other manufacturers have had this capability forever (UAD, Apogee, Lynx, Focusrite, etc.)

Re: When will there be an RME 1U M16-16 PRO Converter? 16 ins 16 Outs

RME rep at Superbooth hinted that a 16 channel converter is coming later this year. No details, just "watch this space."

Hi there, I´m quite new in this forum...
Does anyone has news regarding this rumor?
Is the M16-16 Pro a real thing??

Re: When will there be an RME 1U M16-16 PRO Converter? 16 ins 16 Outs

+1 for an RME series of actual interfaces along these lines (not just converters, having the audio interface built in too...although I'd buy the converters only if that was all that was on offer). Would be an instant purchase for me too, and it seems lots of people above. Hadn't noticed this thread before but had started a similar thread elsewhere on RME forum. Seeing this thread makes me all the more sure it would be a strong seller for RME.

Ideally a series with options for 16, 24 and 32 i/o channels, but it seems like releasing a 16in / 16out would be a very easy first step by just adding one more DB25 to the existing design of the 16-10.

Here's hoping RME read this thread and give this series a shot. I think with their pedigree for drivers it would be a pretty big deal in the audio interface world!

Re: When will there be an RME 1U M16-16 PRO Converter? 16 ins 16 Outs

This would indeed be great.

DB-25 16 IO is nice, but my vote would be to just create a FF pulse16 mx but then by RME. You will sell loads!

- Same specs AD/DA as UFX+ or better.
- 4xADATio and MADIio, WCio and perhaps Dante.
- TRS or even better: if it fits in a 2u rackspace instead of 1u: 16 combo trs/xlr's in and out. No fans.
- AES in out.
- fanless
bonus:
- MIDI i/o - 8 io would be epic, but 2io like on the UFX(+)/II/III  would be nice as well.
- Preamps, perhaps 8 extra as max. So that you have 12 if you  add it to the UFX series.
