Topic: Having Difficulty Setting Up User Management on TotalMix Remote

I'm trying to set up multiple users via the User Management for TotalMix Remote.  (I have a MacBook Pro hooked to a Fireface UFX+, and I started setting things up with two of my own ipads.  I was thinking that for every ipad user i can assign a random name and password, but it seems to only work for names assigned for the particular ipad.  For example, the only way I have been able to get the OK button on the Edit Network Remote User Setting window to not be greyed out is to use a user name that matches what's already assigned to an ipad logged into the network.  Is that the idea, instead of having a user name like Drummer, Keyboards, Singer, i have to match the assigned user names that each person has for their ipad?  I haven't gotten to passwords yet, but the same question applies: can I set up simple passwords of my own choosing for each person that I'm assigning access, or do the passwords have to match their own ipad passwords?

Thanks,

Dave

It should be obvious (as logical) that the user name in the host must be the same as the user name in the remote. This is user management, not device management...

Re: Having Difficulty Setting Up User Management on TotalMix Remote

Thanks for the response.  Yes, I understand the basic concept that user name must match what's set up on the host, but maybe it's the order of things that is messing me up.  I assumed I could assign a bunch of users in advance (Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keys, Singer, or Jim, John, Greg, Denise and Dave) on the host, and assign them their particular output bus to control.  But the only way I could get the OK button to not be greyed out was to use Dave, my name already associated with my ipad.  Do I have to wait until the 5 ipads are all attached to the host (without user management)?  What's the trick to make the OK button be active and not greyed out?  And does it have anything to do with the ipad user name, already set up prior to messing with TotalMix Remote?

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Having Difficulty Setting Up User Management on TotalMix Remote

I wanted to update this post as I have made some good progress on sorting things out.  First, I don't really know why I why i was having the issue with assigning user names without the OK button becoming highlighted, but after shutting down the iPad and restarting it, things began working to where I COULD assign any user name I wanted (on the host laptop and the iPod remote) - so it had nothing to do with the iPad owner/user name.

After that, I got 3 iPads and set up 3 users, but ran into another headache where for one I could use the Options/Channel Layout to de-populate the display to only the things that user needed to see, but for the other two it would jump back to the host view.  Turned out I needed to go to Options/Preferences and de-select Sync Channel Layouts under Remote Behavior - the one that worked was set up this way, but the two that didn't still had Sync Channel Layout selected.  Makes sense, just easy to miss all the various set up selections, and this one was critical.

Everything now seems to be working well for each of the users.  I still need to work through how the effects, reverb and EQ cn be controlled by the individual "Edit Submix" users - will update this if I run into additional questions or issues.

Hope this helps somebody else.
