Topic: TM with Windows and iPad with SAC

Ok this is going to be long.
I have notice I’ve been on the bench to long.
Geez RME has got a lot of new geek stuff…
My set up at present and has served me extreeemly well for many years..probably 8.
Windows 7 PC running SAC (software audio console) RML Labs for those youngsters, a HDSP Raydat PCIe, 4x Behringer 8200 mic pre’s 2 crowns and a 4 ch Carvin for stage monitors, and a Windows laptop as remote. Of coarse adding more amps for larger gigs, and break outs for IEM’s.
All in 1 rolling rack for a super portable sound rig. It’s been used as a live rig for countless gigs.
I’ve run everything from a 20’x20’ bar to 5000 plus peeps outdoor festival. Though all sorts of weather and conditions, even exploding transformers on the pole on a hot 4th July festival, the show went on.
Probably had 1 freeze up in all those years, and funny thing was the laptop on remote continued to work while the monitor and keyboard at console was froze.
My only wish for this system has always been the ability to use an iPad as control as well as a windows PC
I basically have these questions.
1)Should I do firmware updates on the Raydat card.
2)If I install firmware and drivers for TotalMix will it blow up my SAC installation.
3)If I do the above would I be able to connect an iPad to TotalMix?
4)If LinuxStudio was installed is there a mixer that is PC and iPad capable?

Re: TM with Windows and iPad with SAC

Welcome to RME user forum.

to 1) normally this is always possible and also recommended to catch any potential bug

to 2) I do not know SAC and can only guess. It looks like a normal application (mixer) loading an ASIO driver.
I am always updating RME firmware and ASIO driver (and by this TM FX) and had never any issues with my DAW.
Therefore I assume that SAC as a "normal application loading an ASIO driver" will also have no problems comparable to Cubase or any other DAW. Make a disk image (-> Macrium Reflect), if anything blows up, make a restore.

to 3) to connect the iPAD TM FX app you have other requirements
- only these interfaces are supported: UFX+, UFX II, UFX, UCX, 802, Babyface, Babyface Pro und MADIface Pro
Not explicitely mentioned, but I am certain UCX II will work as well
- these interfaces need to run in Class Compliant mode !!
Not possible to be used with your RayDAT as it has no USB and thus no Class compliant mode.
Check the description in the Apple shop, it explains all in detail: https://apps.apple.com/de/app/totalmix- … d739965887

to 3) A better alternative might be to use TotalMix Remote App on the iPAD and to connect to the remote host through network. Then you can remote control TM FX running on the PC with the recording interface connected using the iPAD.
This should also work with your RayDAT.
Check the description in the Apple shop, it explains all in detail: https://apps.apple.com/de/app/totalmix- … 1345471593

to 4) Linux is not supported. No RME driver/TotalMix FX. The only RME interfaces that can be used by Linux are USB based and which support Class Compliant mode.
Therefore you can't use iPAD app as your RayDAT doesnt have USB.
And also not iPAD app for TotalMix Remote as there is not TotalMix FX for Linux.

If you have plans for upgrading to a new recording interface I would choose UFX+.
Go MADI .. supported 64ch, can be used as kind of multicore with Multimode fiber cables (OM3 or OM4).
You can serially connect multiple devices to a fiber ring.
The cable length between each of the devices may be up to 2km.
Patch cables are available up to 30 or even 50m length.
This gives you great flexibility in terms of placement of devices.

The UFX+ is a versatile unit and has a good mix of analog and digital I/O.
Nice features like DURec to be able to make standalone or backup recordings to USB HD or USB Stick/SSD.
