Hi guys,
I'm getting an extremely low volume on my Fireface 400 Balanced Line Outputs using TRS 1/4" jack to XLR cables; it doesn't happen if I use TRS or TS 1/4" jack cables.
Could it be something related to the internal wiring of the cables?

Have you a multimeter for peep-test the plug ?
When the ring of the jack plug gives a peep on the housing of the XLR connector, then the cable is fault.
After further investigation, it seems like this issue only happens on one analog output (output n.5) while the level is fine with the other outputs (using the same cable of course).
Oddly enough this low output level on the Analog Output 5 of the interface, only happens using TRS to XLR cables, while it works fine with 1/4” TRS jack or 1/4” TS jack cables.
I tried to use a bit of contact cleaner thinking it could be a dirty contact, but it didn’t work.
What could it be?
Could be a defective XLR output plug. To test do a loopback with a XLR-XLR cable from this output and another non problematic one. If now the level is also lower it is a defect in the XLR I would think. If levels are equal, it is a mystery!

the problematic output is a balanced 1/4" jack output and I tried multiple TRS 1/4" jack to XLR cables to check it.
The fact that it's working fine with 1/4" jack cables (both TRS and TS) but not TRS 1/4" jack to XLR cables could mean there's an issue on the ring connection of the output connector?
No. It means your TRS to XLR cable is not working (soldered) correctly. Otherwise TRS to TRS would also fail.

The same TRS to XLR cables that are not working with Output 5, work just fine connected to all the other outputs.
