Topic: Whats new in 5.95 and one problem

Hi.

Problem after installation of DC 5.95: DC-icon in the taskbar is not linked to the binary anymore.
So, I removed it and dragged/dropped the new icon from desktop to taskbar.

Then I noticed when right-clicking with the mouse to the newly linked DC icon in taskbar, that you loose
- history of used DIGIcheck workspaces and quick workspace select slots
- pinned configurations

If I recall correctly, then this didn't happen on previous installations.

OS: Windows 10 Pro 22H2

Restore backup from this morning, fixed.

BTW, what's new in DIGICheck v5.95?

It supports some newer interfaces and devices. Nothing else.

If the linking is gone then it seems you installed in a different directory.

Re: Whats new in 5.95 and one problem

I always used the default path.

Now, I didn't fully install, but started it up to the point where you could change paths (which I didn't do).
Here two windows, installation window and explorer showing the current installation folder.

Installation paths appear to be equal.
There is a difference, but this seems to be the typical thing on Windows … German version shows other path names.

I also have a quick start icon in there and it never stopped working. I did not check the right mouse click links, though.

Re: Whats new in 5.95 and one problem

I could validate, that it installs into the same directory.

During installation, you see a message that shortcuts are being removed, maybe this is related to the issue (2nd screenshot).

You see here from the timestamps that all files are from initial installation with old timestamps.
Only the DIGIcheck binary has been updated.
So it is definitively the same installation folder and also same file name for the binary.

Possibly instead of simply overwriting the old binary too much is being removed / changed in the background.
Which leads to a loss of the prepared / pinned information.
I always use the prepared / pinned config to start different DIGICheck workspaces.

Ok, need to restore backup now again ;-) But I hope it helps to fix the issue, many thanks.

Re: Whats new in 5.95 and one problem

Ramses does the white shortcut in the taskbar work? I have seen that many times with different updates that the icon gets lost, not the shortcut. Sometimes a simple reboot helps or starting the app. With the white shortcut are the rightclick links still there?
If yes it is a windows issue, not RME imho.
If this happens here, if I start the app the icon reappears, but often back to a white square when closed.

Re: Whats new in 5.95 and one problem

Hi vinark, thanks for the tip but it's not an icon cache problem (vanishing picture on an icon problem),
which I know from Win7, in Win10 I had no issues with it so far.

The entire application does not start and because of that nothing is shown when doing a right click.

The only option that you get on clicking is to unlink the icon from the taskbar.
If you unlink and re-create the link newly, the list is empty.

Re: Whats new in 5.95 and one problem

Same issue with DigiCheck 5.96.

I re-attached the icon to the Windows taskbar,
but again all entries are gone after update when performing right-click to the DC-icon in taskbar.

Luckily, the last 8 opened workspaces are visible in the pull down menu under "File". I selected the most important to me. By this, they are again visible/usable when right-clicking the DC-button in the task bar, and I could pin the most used.

It's not so nice that this keeps happening when updating DIGIcheck. Is there really nothing that can be done about it?
I use this very useful Windows taskbar feature regularly for various applications. There I don't remember such problems after updates, for example: Cubase, WaveLab, FreeFileSync, PuTTY, pagent (PuTTY).
