Topic: Fireface UFX II : Connecting unbalanced cables to balanced line jacks?

In the Fireface UFX II manual (p 38) it says

When using unbalanced cables with TRS jacks: be sure to connect the 'ring' contact of the TRS jack to ground.  Otherwise noise may occur, caused by the unconnected negative input of the balanced input.

What does this mean exactly?  How does one make sure one "connect[s] the 'ring' contact of the TRS jack to ground"?

I am assuming this applies both to the rear balanced inputs and the balanced outputs?

Normally an unbalanced connection will have TS cables, but in case TRS connector ase used you must observe the above.
