Topic: Is the RayDat pci-e card right for me?

Hey guys. So I'm thinking of upgrading my interface situation. Right now I'm on a PreSonus fire Studio that is firewire 400. I'm looking at an raydat pcie card. My computer is a 2009 Dell Precision T7500 workstation that has dual Xenon 3.47 GHz chips with 24 gigs of ddr3 ram, I'm running Windows 7 Pro and cubase 8 pro for my daw. The workstation has a pcie X4 slot. My main goal for switching to a different interface is to get the latency down when recording guitar through a guitar plugin. My brother who is super smart with computers is telling me that the Xenon chips are not the best for recording. He thinks I should upgrade my computer and get a Intel I-9 chip.
The workstation has a pci-e x4 slot.  If what I know is correct, a pci-e x4 slot has a 10 gig transfer rate so that has to be faster but....will my xenon server chips dumb the speed back down to make it not worth having the rayday card?
My best latency is around 11-12 ms right now.
I was thinking I could still use my presonus and come adat out of it to the adat inputs of the raydat card.
I don't do high track counts.....20 tops. I just do guitar instrumental stuff.

Do you guys think I wood be okay by going with the raydat card without the computer/chip upgrade?

Hi jl71, welcome to the RME user forum.

As you can see, latencies of RME drivers are very low, regardless of the transport being in use.

I used Xeon 6 core CPUs like E5-1650-v3. Upgraded to a E5-1650-v4 as I got a good offer for a used one (little higher clock, lower temperatures, less impact for Spectre/Meltdown fixes).

You can also try UCX II, UFX II or UFX+ (successor), whatever is more useful to you.

If your PC also has a PCI slot you could also try a HDSP9652 which can be had very cheap second hand (because they have the old PCI standard), it has the same low latency as the raydat but only 3 adat ports instead of 4 on the raydat.
I use 2 in 2 older computers (about same age as yours only single cpu) with great succes.

On the other hand dual cpu's are known to not be to good for low latencies, so you could try and disable one cpu in the bios (if possible).
If this helps for your guitar problem, there might be better solutions then via the bios but they are complicated and it is easier to try via the bios first. Or google disable one cpu in a dual cpu setup.
