Topic: Stuttering Audio - Monterey - Intel - Logic X

Hi

I recently purchased an RME Digiface USB for the adat connection to an Allen & Heath Zed-R16 mixer.

The issue is that playback stops and starts randomly. If I have a loop/cycle running then it jumps to the start of the cycle.

When switching to another audio device the problem immediately stops.

I've updated all drivers and re-installed Logic.

It's a really serious problem and renders my £300+ soundcard essentially unusable for it's sole purpose!

3.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5
16 GB 1866 MHz DDR3
OWC Aura Pro X2

Monterey 12.6.1
Logic X 10.7.6

Can anybody help?

Re: Stuttering Audio - Monterey - Intel - Logic X

Is Logic working proper when no interface is connected ?
If so, then the USB connection is probably flickering... ?
Change cable, use different USB port...?

Re: Stuttering Audio - Monterey - Intel - Logic X

Some random thoughts:
- is the Digiface set as clock master or is it slaved to the Zed?
- could it be there are incoming Midi commands accidentally from somewhere?
- do you use a hardware control surface? A MIDI keyboard?
- as waedi already wrote, check or swap USB cable and/or port. Is a USB hub involved?
- as MC wrote, what about the firmware on the Digiface?
- is the Logic project running on the internal HD/SSD?
- what sample rate, what buffer size?

Re: Stuttering Audio - Monterey - Intel - Logic X

Thanks everyone for the replies on this.

I've now re-created the issue with my other soundcard - seems to be made worse when also actively using chrome however it also occurs when logic is the only application running.

Therefore it seems to be an issue with Logic, rather than the RME. Can't find anything online currently but will keep looking.

It also might be something to do with my graphics card but Im still at a loss really. I've spent a lot of money on all my music gear and it's so frustrating that it doesn't just plug in and work like it should!

I guess I will have to keep testing things and hopefully in the end I'll either work out a fix or do an update which works.

Dont think I'll ever be upgrading OS again any time soon since this is what triggered the issues in the first place. Like it always does.
