Topic: Madiface + 12mic : who's the master ?

Hi

Just curious : in a configuration of a Madiface + 12mic preamp : who shall be the master ?

Is the clock sync always stable, or prone to user error ?

I once had an audiofire 8 with a mytek AD converter, and the optical sync issues and overall sensitivity to which unit was first turned on left me with a bitter taste... Curious to know if MADI is any different

Thanks

There is no product being called "Madiface" alone, which recording interface are you interested to?

Re: Madiface + 12mic : who's the master ?

This product is called "HDSPe MADIface", RME also offers other products with MADIface in the name: MADIface XT, USB, Pro.

He has a Babyface Pro as you can see from his old thread. Why would he ask now for a product which is discontinued?

Re: Madiface + 12mic : who's the master ?

Oh, i didn't know the MADIface pro was discontinued, sorry.

I'm just prospecting. I'd love a soundcard with 12 XLR preamps, so i thought the MADIface pro + 12mic would be the ticket, but then i realized the UFX and 802 both have 12 inputs....

Re: Madiface + 12mic : who's the master ?

The 12 analog inputs of the UFX and 802 have absolutely no relevance when connecting a 12Mic.
If you talk about 12 ports I think you mean the 8x analog I/O and 4x Mic/Line/Inst ports.

If you look to the 12Mic then you can clearly see, that it has no 12 analog outputs.
So everything needs to be routed digitally through either ADAT, MADI oder AVB.

You can use the 2 ADAT ports of 802 or UFX II, then you can use the 12 Mic inputs of the 12Mic fully at single speed. If you should work in double speed only 8 ports of the 12 will be useable because of the known port multiplexing / bundling for double speed.

If I were you I would use the UFX II instead of the 802, because
- 802 can not store its mic settings digitally
- UFX II and 12Mic have very similar Mic inputs supporting 75 dB gain.
