Topic: quadmic II distortion figures

The quadmic II manual only mentions the following figure for distortion:

THD: < -107 dB, < 0.00045 %

Is it a worse case figure (ie +21dBu output and full gain) ?
Is it unweighted, and if so on what bandwidth ?

I would love to know how it does fare at around +30dB of gain and a more modest output level (eg 0dBV or something in that realm).

Thank you

Re: quadmic II distortion figures

I do not know where you got your data from, according to the manual:

4. Technical Specifications
Inputs: XLR or 1/4" TRS (stereo) jack, electronically balanced
Input impedance: XLR 2 kOhm, TRS 4 kOhm
Signal to Noise ratio (SNR): 129 dB EIN @150 Ohm
THD: < 0.0005 % @ 30 dB Gain
Crosstalk: > 110 dB
Frequency response –0.5 dB: 5 Hz - 200 kHz
Line Out: 1/4" TRS (stereo) jack, servo balanced
Maximum output level: +21 dBu
Output impedance: 75 Ohm

There is information about gain included (@30 dB gain).

Re: quadmic II distortion figures

Hi Ramses,

Sorry for the confusion and thank you for your response: I read the specs from the old quadmic I manual instead of the quadmic II one!

So that is max -106dB / 0.0005% at +30dB
Still I'd like to know the weighting and output level.
If that is unweighted 20-20k and with the max +21dBu output then that is mighty impressive!

Re: quadmic II distortion figures

I have no information about how the measurement was performed. I wanted to give you at least the information that in the manual there are other THD values with indication of the gain being used. The rest needs to come from RME.
