Topic: Motherboard Recommendations?

I'm considering buying a UFX+ later this year, and I'd like to run it in Thunderbolt.
I'm planning to build a new DAW sooner that that, but I have not decided on AMD or Intel.
I'd like to consider only proven last-gen platforms so that rules out the new 12th gen Intel CPUs and the upcoming AM5 CPUs from AMD.

Realistically my build will center around either a 5950x or a 10900K.
What are the most reliable motherboards for each of these CPUs? What about RAM?
Can it be narrowed to a can't-go-wrong top-3 pairings for each platform?
Onboard Thunderbolt would be nice but I don't mind using a PCIe card.

My priority is low-latency recording through amp sims and VST instruments/samplers.

Re: Motherboard Recommendations?

Just take a look at audio computer builders sites to see what they use. In the UK SCAN show what components they use as do cclonline. SCAN do katency testing as well.

Re: Motherboard Recommendations?

CCL uses MSI (a brand I swore off 20 years ago) and Scan's website has been inaccessible for weeks.

I was hoping for individuals to share their own baller configurations.

Don't know why you complain, this doesn't look too bad on the 1st glimpse with Asus mainboard and thunderbolt.

These components a little bit dated though ... CPU from Q4/2019, Mainboard from Dez 2018...

I'm not complaining. Scan's website has been inaccessible for many weeks for some people:

Ah, never mind. It just occurred to me to use a VPN. Now the site loads.

Ah CCL were using ASUS not long ago. The trouble is unless someone has bought a new pc recently they tend to be out of date. Mine is only 1.5 years old but is now a few generations down the line. Mine is a Z390-E gaming. I don’t play games so just use the onboard video which works fine. I9 9900 and 32gig memory M.2 drive and a couple of ssd drives. Nothing special but no pops or clicks at low buffer sizes. I run at 64 and don’t change it for tracking or mixing. Fairly big projects in Cubase but not huge like some have.

Re: Motherboard Recommendations?

As a fellow music enthusiast, I think I can help you out. If you're planning on using a UFX+ with Thunderbolt, you're going to need a compatible motherboard. For the AMD platform, the 5950x is a solid choice and the ASRock X570 Taichi or ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero are both excellent motherboards that support Thunderbolt. As for the Intel side of things, the 10900K is also a great CPU, and the Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Ultra or ASUS ROG Maximus XII Hero are highly recommended for low-latency recording with Thunderbolt. For RAM, I'd suggest going with at least 32GB of high-speed DDR4, such as 3200MHz or 3600MHz. Check out https://finalratings.com/motherboards/a … nd-review/ fore more info on motherboards and tech.
