The issue
I installed my babyface pro fs and it worked fine.
Updated firmware and drivers for Windows

Unit worked fine until today

I am using mic3 (line 1) input for my Akg C414 running from Focusrite ISA two in WA76 limiting amplifier.

WHen I disconnect the input all sound stops and the unit starts ticking

Also Totalmix shows appropriate levels and no sound

When I reconnect the input everything works fine. However I cannot do a normal playback of any material
without the insert into line 1.

I then remembered that I bought a 3m usb2 cable, as my setup requires a longer cable

So I switched it out with the provided USB cable

Everything worked fine!

My questions

1. It seems that there is a bandwidth audio issue with the cheap cable. Am I imagining things or
is it possible?
2. Is there a solution to this problem i.e. what 3m cable could I buy to alleviate this issue?
3. Will a usb extender work?
