Topic: Changing Audio Device on Sample Rate Expected Behavior?

Been digging around but couldn't find any info on this so was hoping someone could confirm if this was expected behavior or not?

PC info: Windows 11 Pro (v22H2), Foobar with Asio MADIface USB, RME ADI 2 v51 firmware, MADIface v0.9808

As of today, I just noticed that whenever the sample rate changes when listening to music in foobar, all other audio will cut off for a second before reconnecting. For example, if I'm playing a game while listening to a song in foobar with a sample rate of 44.1kHz, and then the next song has a sample rate of 48.0kHz, the game/ youtube/ etc. audio will cut off for a sec while the sample rate changes. I also noticed that when this happens, it seems to be creating a new device profile in windows sound devices and then swapping between them (one for 44.1Khz and one for 48kHz, pictures below in the link).

I just wanted to ask and see if this is normal? I feel like I've used foobar while in voice calls/ games without ever running into this issue before. It's possible that up until now, I was never using MADIface/ the output in Foobar got swapped back to default or maybe everytime I'm gaming, all the songs are the same sample rate but yeah, just a bit distracting having the audio cut in and out here and there when a new song plays. Sometimes going as far as making other apps like discord think a new audio device is being used.

Only one profile when 48.1kHz is being used.

Re: Changing Audio Device on Sample Rate Expected Behavior?

It's correct.

To avoid this issue, you can add a resampler in foobar2000.

Oh, huh. Strange I've never noticed before (maybe I'm losing my mind...) but thanks for the confirmation! Just added sox resampler and that fixed it!
