Topic: RME AIO (old version) - How to use AES breakout XLR input?

I've had many RME cards, and I am used to the regular breakout cable like the one on this AIO and Babyface.  This card also includes an AES breakout cable with a couple more XLR jacks on it.  But when I plug a mic into it, there is no signal.  How do I use this extra input?  Furthermore, how do I add more XLR inputs in general without getting  another large module to attach to this card?  I just want a couple more XLR inputs.  Thank you.

AES is digital, you need analog connection for mirophones.
The AIO has ADAT connetors, an RME 12Mic would give you 12 microphone connectors.
An RME OctamicII would also work, or if it has to be cheap a Behringer ADA8200 is a unit.
Your request is not possible, it needs to be an additional device (large module).

What about the add-on cards?  AI4S-192 AIO or whatever is compatible with the original AIO.  It's Line-Level Balanced TRS - but a simple cable will allow XLR Line Level inputs, and it's internal... (caveat - no built-in mic pre's that I'm aware).
