Topic: Fireface UFX update questions

Hello all,

I am doing some studio switching/DAW changing.  Since 2012 I have used the UFX with ProTools 10 on a laptop via USB.  Hoping to be able to continue to use my UFX with my newer iMac (13.2.1) with either Logic or GarageBand (would like to experiment with both).  My UFX is currently is SW Ver. 1.10. Firmware v342 and driver v1.66

What driver/flash combo would I need to download to get these two to talk to each other?  Or am I not able to make this work.

Thank you!
kc

The USB driver : https://rme-audio.de/downloads/driver_usbdk_mac_407.zip

For Firewire use the Firewire driver : https://rme-audio.de/downloads/driver_fw_mac_341.zip

The Flash update tool : https://rme-audio.de/downloads/fut_usb_mac.zip

Re: Fireface UFX update questions

Thank you!  I got everything downloaded, took down the download blocker and allowed the RME to do its thing.

I cannot seem to get the Flash update to work: whenever I hit update, nothing happens (or so it appears) and the status bar never changes.  Also, when I turn on the UFX, neither TotalMix nor the USB settings open up.

What is the missing link?

Thank you,
kc

Re: Fireface UFX update questions

Sure the unit is not in CC-mode ?

The Class Compliant mode can be activated and deactivated directly at the unit, as long as it is not connected to a Mac or PC: SETUP/REV, Options, Hardware/Diagnosis.

Re: Fireface UFX update questions

You need to update the firmware before using the unit with DriverKit drivers. You can do this on your old system.

--------------

Attention: Fireface UFX / UCX / UC / 802 and Babyface require a firmware update to versions UFX: 361, UCX: 49, UC: 127, 802 : 17 (111), Babyface: 226 to enable the use of this DriverKit driver. Link to firmware update tool:

The FUT runs on M1. But as it needs the driver, and the driver is not working as long as the device firmware has not been updated, it is necessary to first update the firmware of these interfaces using the former kernel extension driver!

Re: Fireface UFX update questions

@waedi: I followed your instructions here, however, I do not see anywhere in my options where there is a "Hardware" or "Diagnosis" option.  At least, I couldn't find it.

@MC: Thank you.  Is it possible that if I update the firmware on the UFX that it will no longer work with my current set up?  Sort of like, 'Once you update this, you can't go back'.  Or will I still have usability on both my old setup and new setup?

Re: Fireface UFX update questions

The latest FUT allows you to go back to the legacy firmware version. The new DK firmware might indeed not be compatible to driver 1.66 (which is from 2012 - we did not test this).

Re: Fireface UFX update questions

Okay, so I am updated.  I have downloaded an upgraded ProTools to my iMac with a perpetual license.  I got the UFX updated both in terms of firmware and drivers.  I am running a session now to test things and everything seems great.  I got my sound back on my mains and life is good.

However, no I have no sound coming to my phones 9/10 and 11/12.  What do I need to route in TotalMix to make this work like it used to? i.e. whenever I played audio in the past in went to the main outs and the phones all at the same time.  I've never had to choose the headphones outputs.

Thank you.

Re: Fireface UFX update questions

I figured it out. I know what I did, but I don't know what I did.  Either way, all good to go.

Thank you again to everyone for your help.
