Topic: Legacy UFX to UFX III

I dont need the extra channels. The preamp and AD/DA upgrades doesnt seems to be that different (please correct me if Im wrong). Is there anything Im missing related to sound quality ? I just got a new mac studio so I hope RME will support legacy ufx for a long time, right ?

USB at least will have support for the foreseeable future.

UFX+/II was already an improvement over the UFX, see my blog: https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/Entry/68-RME-UFX/
UFX III is again an improvement over UFX+/II.
The question is whether you need the improvements.

A few points, what UFX III delivers:

See also the link to the comparison Excel in my blog.

I, personally, would sell UFX for a good price now as long as you get still a good price for it and invest into UFX III.
But it's not a real "must", it depends on whether you have the budget, whether you also want to have benefits from MADI in terms of expandability.

I got your point. Thanks for the help. Well, in fact I’m not even using the digital channels on the legacy ufx yet. But I use all the analog i/o. Im just interested in sound quality and the analog i/o, midi and adat i/o for ocasional use. I plan to expand my setup with a 16 channel high quality mixing desk to connect a bunch of keyboards and MPCs but I already have this capability on my ufx via AES or adat I think. The smaller interfaces by rme with the current analog circuit and converters dont have the analog i/o of the ufx and is half size rack which I really dont like (not interested in portability of my main studio interface). The other option is the apollo x8 but I dont like the fact that it doesnt have midi i/o and I think that their dsp scheeme will be outdated in the near future. So maybe I should stick with my ufx for a while. Still thinking.

Another option is to keep the UFX then and to enhance the monitoring of monitors and phones  with an ADI-2 Pro FS R BE or even ADI-2/4 Pro SE, see these two blog articles:
