Topic: Audio Issue UFX...

I image my computer at night and turn it off. I also turn off my speakers - Dynaudio BM6As - and turn off my UFX nightly. In the morning I turn on my UFX and speakers and then boot up my Windows 10 PC.

Recently, following the above routine in the morning, I will see meter activity in TotalMix, but have very, very low audio in my speakers on playback. This does not happen all the time. After some time the audio may start playing at the correct volume, sometimes I have to restore the image I made the night before to get the audio to play at the correct volume.

I have checked that all connections are fine, nothing has changed in months with the exception of installing the latest driver, 1.2.27.0.

Is a capacitor in the UFX failing? Should I not turn it off nightly, rather leave it on 24/7?

Any and all suggestions or thoughts gladly accepted.

Re: Audio Issue UFX...

The power supply should be checked, it's a typical symptom of failing with older UFX.

I'm in Toronto, Canada. Is there an authorized repair centre here?

Well, I just paid $250 to have the power supply replaced and the problem is still there. (The first power supply from Gerr Audio was defective).

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Re: Audio Issue UFX...

The only suggestion comes to my mind : Send in for repair to a service partner of RME.
When that new power supply is faulty then Gerr should replace it again.
Or first of all find out what the problem is.
Gerr should take care of it and make an overall test to find the problem.

Re: Audio Issue UFX...

Any chance it might be my ARC USB Controller and not the UFX? I wouldn't think so, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Re: Audio Issue UFX...

Impossible to say from here, but easy to find out by simply unplug the ARC.

Re: Audio Issue UFX...

Not the ARC, thanks for the suggestion.

What I noticed this morning, when I had turned the UFX off last night and then turned it on today, the volume was, as expected, very, very low, then there was a bit of crackling in the speakers and then the volume came up to full.

I've got an enquiry into Gerr Audio to see if they have a fix.
