Downloaded the installer according to the directions on the RME site, including setting a reduced security level in Recovery Mode and granting the installer access to whatever it needs.

Babyface definitely connected in some way - it's lighting up and getting power.  But neither TotalMix nor the mac's Sound settings are registering its existence.

Urgent help needed!
