Topic: Problems playing multichannal windows audio on ff-400

Hi all,
I use my ff400 for playback only. Most of the times using SPDIF with asio drivers. The stereo signal is split using Hand Loose Convolver and sent to  8 outs. This works fine, occasionally I need to play from my computer, W10, routing all sounds to v-cable as player through the HLC. It used to work fine. For some reason now I only have an option to use 2 channels and not all 8. See images.
When it worked it looked like this on HLC

Notice that in windows sound it says RME speakers.
Now for some reason (I didn't change anything) it looks like this:

Now windows sound has 2-speakers RME

Hope the screen shots are viable.

Thanks,

I edited the links, hope it works now. It is very annoying that you can't just upload images to this forum like in any other user forum.

Re: Problems playing multichannal windows audio on ff-400

Could be caused through a Windows update maybe?
How many channels are enabled in WDM settings?
Doesn’t it work with ASIO?

You'll need to make the links publicly accessible. Or use a service like Imgur.

Your pics are still not accessible. As a side note on your comment: having a "bloated" forum like Steinberg is also no fun...

Here is an intro to this topic and why I regard Dropbox as useful, hope it helps.

You have to open the imgur link in your browser, right-click the open image and copy image address.
Put that image address into the post between image tags

OK. thanks a lot! This unusually cumbersome process should be better explained in the sticky notes. Not you job of course.
Any idea on the issue itself?

Re: Problems playing multichannal windows audio on ff-400

Did you set the Speaker to be an 8 channel playback device? Configure button in Sound panel.

The 2 in front of the name has no meaning for this case, ignore it.

Re: Problems playing multichannal windows audio on ff-400

You mean in windows audio? not sure what to do as v-cable needs to be the default playback device. Also I have tried to add WMD devices in the RME settings and they don't appear under windows sound. Strange

On the issue itself I can't help, Mac-Nerd myself your software combination is to me mystery.

The image upload process is how it works everywhere in every forum I know.
An upload function would have the risk of getting hacked or blocked by spam flood.

Re: Problems playing multichannal windows audio on ff-400

I am not sure if this relates to my issue or not. But I can't seem to add WDM devices anymore. See picture. I tried to add 4 devices but they were not added. Also I see an error 41. Not sure what that means.

Thanks,

What options can you see when you click on 'WDM devices' in the RME Fireface settings app?

Re: Problems playing multichannal windows audio on ff-400

How long does it take on your computer to start the Windows Sound control panel?

Changing the number of WDM devices might need to change the sample rate for the change to take effect.

Re: Problems playing multichannal windows audio on ff-400

Window sound starts pretty quickly. The thing is even when I change the clock to internal the sample rate is still grayed at 96khz. Any idea why is that? what is the meaning of Error 41?

Re: Problems playing multichannal windows audio on ff-400

Something is streaming = blocking the WDM device = no settings can be changed. Might be the VB cable if it is connected to the FF400 I/O.

You have 41 transmission errors on USB, not Error 41.

Re: Problems playing multichannal windows audio on ff-400

OK thanks, I will look into it. do you think that this is the reason why I can't add WDM device? Also this if a Fire-Wire device how can I have a USB error?

Obviously a typo.

So the convolver was blocking the WDM device. After shutting it down I could add WDM devices. Configuring the RME speakers in windows sound to 7.1 solved my original issue and now the convolver can be configured to output to all 8 channels. I still get pops on playback despite having both v-cable, RME and convolver set to the same sample rate and buffer but that is probably not an RME issue.

Thanks for the help!
