Topic: Totalmix 1.83 Dim feature issue

I'm delving back in to attempt to master Totalmix one more time.  I use a UCX II with the ARC.

Driver 1.245 Totalmix 1.83 Firmware 42/26/21

Basically right now I'm watching intructional videos and clicking around in TM testing things.

I have used the Dim feature a few times without issue back in my old Babyface days.

Last night I noticed that when I clicked on Dim, the master fader would drop, but the audio to my monitors stayed at the same level.

Then a few minutes later it DID work and the audio dropped by 20dB, which is my preset level.

And now tonight, it's not working again.  Fader drops in the software, but audio level stays the same. Pulling the Main fader up or down makes no change to the actual audio level I'm hearing.

I'm just testing with a single stereo audio track playing in my DAW (Samplitude PRO X8), which is running out SPDIF optical.

In Totalmix mixer I see signal/meters on Software Playback ADAT 1/2, Hardware Output ADAT 1/2, and the Main fader.  Mute buttons also mute signal on the Software Playback channel and the Hardware Output channel, but NOT the Main fader.

So basically the Main fader is not changing the actual level I hear nor do Mute and Dim have any effect.

what is going on here?

Re: Totalmix 1.83 Dim feature issue

The ASSIGN button in Totalmix let you assign the Main-out to a desired output, please click the Assign button and check the cnnection, probably it is assigned to Analog 1/2 ?
Right side bottom is the button.

I did scroll through those and it seemed that the sound continued no matter, but today I assigned to ADAT 1/2 which is the Software Playback and Hardware Output channels, and it seems to be functioning as normal.

So I want my Main assignment to always be exactly what hardware or digital output I'm actually using, correct?

Sorry to say that, but I would highly recommend to read the manual section about Totalmix.
Every output (stereo pairs or even single ones if you want) can have its own mix from software playback channels and hardware inputs. So a particular software playback channel (or stereo pair) can be routed to different hardware outputs at the same time. You can decide what hardware output should be your main one. Select it from the list which opens after clicking the 'assign' button. All the tools on the main out channel (like DIM) become active then for this particular hardware output.
So the question is: on what physical (hardware) output are your monitor speakers connected to? If they are connected on the optical or coaxial port, the mute, dim and fader on main output channel only affect the signal when hardware SPDIF out is assigned there.
