Topic: Racking the UCX II

I ordered the rack ear kit for my UCX II.  I've always kept my interfaces on desktop since I had a Babyface for many years and have been running my UCX II on desk for about 1.5 years now.  Want to tidy things up a bit and had an empty rack space.

I know the UCX II can get warm.  Will it be OK racked between 2 other units?  It has venting on the side and the rack in general is open in the back and has good airflow but no fans.

Re: Racking the UCX II

I bought the shelf kit for racking my UCXII. I like it because the shelf is heavy duty and with the unit screwed to the shelf, it's like a large heatsink. plus, with all the extra room and holes, I was able to put a couple of small cooling fans on it too. Plus, I like the cable management cutouts on the back of the shelf. Definitely keeps the strain on the connectors to a minimum.

I pamper my UCXII (even though I've never had a problem with it getting warm). I figure, I don't like to get too hot...why would my UCXII? smile

I would use an IR temp gun and take some measurements to see how warm things are getting with just the side vents open after you rack it up.

Re: Racking the UCX II

that's a great setup!

I would have done that except the unit below my UCX II is a Burl B2 DAC and it needs venting.

The vents on top of the Burl are on the right and left sides and the UCX, when centered with the rack ears, sits right in between allowing full venting for the Burl.

Using a shelf would completely block the vents on the Burl in my setup.

I may try to find a quiet fan solution but I will take some heat readings after a bit of steady work.

thanks!

Re: Racking the UCX II

Ok....So it's fully racked and I ran it for a couple hours tonight.  Shot it with my IR temp gun and got 107 degrees F or about 42 degrees C.

The manual does say to leave space when racking, but it's centered with the RME rack ears and has about 6 inches of open space on either side of the vents.  It is sandwiched in between the Burl B2 ADC and B2 DAC however.
