Topic: [Resolved] Auto ref behaviour on ADI-2 DAC
ADI-2 DAC has four, 6 dB spaced reference levels: -5, +1, +7 and +13 dBu (RCA output) which can be chosen automatically through the brilliant auto ref feature, in order to optimise S/N ratio for different volume levels.
However, when decreasing volume from 0 dBr down in auto ref mode, I noticed that the changes of the reference level occur at -6.5 dBr from the previous ref point:
from +13 to +7 dBu at -6.5 dBr
from +7 to +1 dBu at -12.5 dBr
from +1 to -5 dBu at -18.5 dBr
It seems that at these transition point the digital volume is always at -0.5 dBFS, which can be verified by switching the auto ref off - display shows vol -0.5 dB.
ADI-2 Pro FS R BE does not behave like this - no 0.5 dB difference when switching between any of the auto ref levels (+24, +19, +13, +4 dBu).
In effect, in auto ref mode, DAC seems to always be at -0.5 dBFS where it should be at 0 dBFS. Or am I missing something?
