Topic: No Software Playback on FF UCX II possible

Hi Folks,

i´ve recently substitute my old FF UFX with a new FF UCX II.
Sursprisingly i´m not able to get the software Playback running. - Wether on Win11 System nor within Cubase.
It is worth mentioned, that all I/O are visible and the Mic In is receiving a Signal which is routable as expected!

Only the Software Playback is not working. I´ve made a small screencast to explain this issue:

I´ve done a Cold Reste on the UCX as well as a driver reinstall. I´ve disabled Audio Capacitys on the Motherboard and made several configuration tries.

Any Idea for this?

Hi Dennis, you didn't tell, which driver you loaded with the application or whether this application supports ASIO or not.

I assume that you are talking about Windows and Applications that do not support ASIO...

I think you simply forgot to create a WDM device in the RME driver settings
and in the TAB speaker to select the device where the active monitors are connected to.

Once you did that, you will see a loudspeaker symbol in the Windows Sound settings.
With a right click of your mouse you can make it to the Windows standard sound device (for Windows and all application that do not support ASIO).

For DAW and other applications which support ASIO, load the RME ASIO driver, and you will see audio at the SW playback channels ... (bypasses the Windows sound system and accesses the recording interface directly, then only TM FX routing is in effect).

thanks for quick answering to my issue:
I use the latest Driver-Version 1.2.45.0.

As shown in my screencast, i´m able to choose from the List of Audiodevices in the Windowspanel:

Also i enabled the WDM´s of 10 in the FFSettings:

And: Even in Cubase, i see all Playback Channels but... No Signal goes through.

Did you configure the speaker symbol in Windows sound as default sound device?
Did you try a reset of TM FX?

I see SoundID installed. Is that configured to interrupt the audio path?

i did configure the speaker symbol as this is available and as it would normally assignable.
- Also i uninstalled SoundID to be sure. - Then made again some testing within Cubase:

All I/Os are visible, but also not usable:

Then i did plugin my old Fireface UFX: Just Plugin USB (same Cable as was pluged in the UCX) and power er voila...
There all Routings and Signals works as expected:

The only idea that I have, to check whether the unit is in Class Compliant mode. If yes, then deactivate it.

i´ve checked CC Mode: It was disabled. I´ve then enabled it andreboot the UCX. Then again deactivated CC Mode.
No changes.
Is it correct, that the USB Indicator on the Display of the UCX is yellow colored, not green?

Do you thing an Driver Deinstalltion would be a try worth?

You should perhaps also try to connect to all USB3 and USB2 ports on your PC or to use a different USB cable.

Driver (re-) installation does not hurt. What version do you use?

OK Found it...

I took out the USB Cable from my Adi-2 Pro and plugged it into the UCX. - Works!
Interesting: The old Cabel works without any Trouble on my old Fireface UFX. So i thought of course, this must be working as well, right?
Do you heard of some issue like that before?

Maybe it worked before and now has a loose contact or whatever.
A broken cable is a broken cable … whatever was in the past … if it's broken now, simply replace.

But the cable still works with the UFX. Thats why i never concidered, that could cause the issue...
But nevertheless. No i´m happy!

I can recommend you Lindy Premium cables, USB3 up to 3m, USB2 up to 5m.

BTW .. If you need USB extensions (USB3, USB2 compatible), those from Startech work brilliant here for UFX III and ADI-2 Pro FS R BE.

So with this 3 m extension, you get in total 3+3=6m (USB3) and 5+3=8m (USB2) which gives you more options to place equipment around your desk … e.g. left side rack, right side PC.
