Topic: Dual EQ to compensate for hearing loss?

I'm enjoying the sonics and features of my new to me RME ADI-2 PRO FS R BE.

I can't wait for the Remote app to include this unit as the menu is a little cumbersome but robust!

Due to an unfortunate injury in my left ear, I have considerable hearing loss on that side. I recently got a hearing test and I have included the graph below. I am currently using the NOS filter with MC's EQ recommendations on the stereo feed. Is there additional EQ anyone would recommend to help balance my left side to my right?

Thanks for any help and happy listening to all!

The effect of hearing loss depends on listening level.
When listening louder it‘s much less pronounced (But don‘t listen too loud, or hearing loss will permanently become worse).

It even depends on the music style you‘re listening to, on the audio spectrum and dynamics of the music.

EQ is static, therefore hearing loss cannot be compensated 1:1 from looking on the figures from the audiometry result.
But these results can serve as a guide to see the more problematic frequencies.

I suggest to experiment by yourself, using broad (= low Q) curves, and find out what and if an EQ betters the situation.
Maybe not, as you can adapt to your losses, the brain adjusts to the new “normal”.

Check for ADI-2’s  “Loudness” function (manual pages 14 and 24), it’s a good tool to become more level-independent.

Re: Dual EQ to compensate for hearing loss?

The hearing loss in my left ear has been an important reason to buy the Adi-2 dac because of the dual EQ.
Out of the audiogram I know that the loss starts between 3 and 4 KHz and worsens above that. My right ear is far better. I only listen to music by my headphones ( Mr Speakers Aeon flow closed)
I use pink noise over both channels, listening at normal levels,  to correct my hearing loss with the left channel PEQ . When I hear the noise “ in the middle of my ears “ I am satisfied. Not very scientific……
Recordinglevels differ so I make small changes while listening, the Remote app on my iPad and iMac is very useful

Re: Dual EQ to compensate for hearing loss?

Have a look at this site. This program might help you to quantify your loss. Maybe at different volume levels, which you could save as PEQ setups. Sine work, yet it could turn out being a solution.
