Topic: Trouble shooting UCX II [noob]

I'm trying to use my new fireface UCX II but I can't make heads or tails of how to use it so far. I'm going to be using it with a mid 2014 Macbook Pro running Big Sur OSX and logic pro X as my DAW. Also my headphones are Audio-Technica M50x.

I'm trying to use it without plugging it into my mac or the time being - to trouble shoot it - it's my understanding that I should be able to plug in a guitar or a microphone and my headphones and I should be able to hear the signal through my headphones without the need for it to be plugged into the computer yet (or am I wrong?)

At the beginning I wasn't even getting a reading on the LCD screen, after messing around with the settings I managed to get it to work on one of the line. instrument channels... but I don't hear anything on my headphones still.

Also so far when I have plugged it into the computer, totalmix doesn't seem to be getting the guitar signal even though the interface lcd screen is showing the guitar signal when I strum.

In MacOS System Preferences - Security & Privacy - Microphone : Is Totalmix listed and enabled ?

M1-Sequoia, Madiface Pro, Digiface USB, Babyface silver and blue

No it isn't.

But I was asking - before going that far - if I should be able to hear the sound on the interface without plugging it into the computer

Re: Trouble shooting UCX II [noob]

You have to go even more far !
You have to read the user manual, page 51 is about standalone function.
It is possible to do monitoring without computer.

Maybe better to begin at page 1.
In my opinion it’s simply impossible to use such a device without reading the manual.
For the guitar there’s a gain on the instrument input. Maybe it’s fully closed at the moment? Then the particular channel has to be open for the headphone mix (TotalMix is like a multi-submix system) …
