Topic: Using spare phones out as 7/8 stereo or mono pair to patch bay

Hey everyone.
Im just wiring up the patch bay to my new ufx 3 and have a question.

There are of course 8 trs line ins on the back of the rme, which I’ve hooked up.

However with the outputs, there’s 2 going to my monitors, and then there are only 6 trs line outs on the back to send back to the patch bay. Ideally I’d love a clean 8 in and 8 out without pulling out the adat expander just yet.

I was reading in the manual that I can use one of the phones out as a general line out.

And I’m wondering if this is a feasible solution to get a full 8 trs outs out of the main unit.

The 6 trs outs on the back directly out to the patch bay and then the last 7/8 outs via the second phones out, and use a splitter cable to get 2 trs connections from the stereo out.

Will this work?

Would I be limited to a stereo pair? Fine if so.

Is it possible to get 2 mono faders from the phones out in total mix? I’m guessing not. But maybe unbalanced?

Anything else to think about?

Thank you, yes, I have these cables already.
I’m fine with connecting it. It’s more a question of how it will work in total mix.

Will they have to be a stereo pair? Or can I seperate the channels in total mix?

In my Digiface USB the headphone output is stereo and can't separate.
I guess in the UFX it behaves the same way.
Should be easy to test if you open the headphone output channel with the wrench tool in Totalmix and click the stereo button.
The stereo button is probably visible but dark and out of function.

'Normal' hardware outputs can be separated as mono channels but not assigned channels (main, speaker B or headphones out). So make sure the hardware out 7/8 is not assigned to such a function.
