Topic: Help setting up analog gear loop

I'm trying to use my ADI 2 PRO FSR in conjunction with my UAD Apollo x4. I have the RME feeding my monitors and headphones coming from the UAD Apollo's optical cable. Sounds great. But I want to also use the RME converters for my Stereo Mixbus compressor within Logic Pro. I've been trying everything I can think of to get a signal going through the Analog compressor... no luck. Is this possible with this setup or do I need an RME interface with TotalMix? I feel like I'm a bit over my head with this... and I'm not sure which IO numbers corresponds with the RME when I'm in Logic Pro either... Is there a significant quality advantage to using the RME as the converter for the Analog outboard gear instead of the Apollo x4 converters? Also, I'm using a balanced cable (both headphone jacks) for my headphones if that matters.

User manual page 28
You have to switch the CC-mode from stereo to Multichannel-mode.
Then you can assign the rear output 3/4 to the system output channels 3/4.
Then you can send from Logic sound to output channels 3/4 and its on the rear TRS sockets.

Yeah I read that in the manual and I have it in Multichannel mode. Loopback should be set to pre FX to 1/2? In logic the IO numbers 3/4 correspond with the Apollo x4 3/4 I'm pretty sure...

Of course you have to create an aggregate device made of the AdI-2 and the UAD if you want to use them at the same time.
It was meant to use the Adi-2 without the UAD.

To not break the concept and to simplify operation, only channels 1/2 of the ADAT input signal
are taken. Even in multi-channel USB mode ADAT uses only the SPDIF input channels 5/6 – not
more. Still the information of all 8 ADAT channels is used in two cases: in SMUX (96 kHz) and
SMUX4 (192 kHz) operation, where channels 1/2 are built up from the information spread about
4 and 8 channels. And in Digital Through mode, where only channels 1/2 can be monitored, but
all 8 channels are passed through to the output if set to ADAT (see below).

you can't send the master out of Logic to the monitor speakers and another signal to outboard gear by the use of optical connection from the UAd to the AdI-2. Only one stereo signal.
Loopack is not needed I think.
The outboard gear will stay connected at the UAD and the ADI-2 will be the converter for the monitor speakers, so it looks like.

So I can't use the ADI with monitors and outboard gear at the same time? Not even in USB mode without the UAD?

For me no, my ears are not able to hear a difference.
for my working experience I would replace the UAD with an RME UFX lll.

Yeah I can't imagine it sounding much better to be honest. My Audeze LCD 5/barefoot monitors sound amazing with the ADI... and the Wes Audio NG bus comp sounds killer with the UAD conversion. It was just bugging me that I should be using the ADI for the outboard conversion, so thank you for putting my mind to rest on that topic.
