Topic: PCM to DSD Upsampling Issue

Hi all,

I've tried to search for the answer to this, but not really finding anything that fully fits the issue i'm having, so bear with me please.

I have my ADI-2 FS Dac connected to my Lumin U2-Mini via Optical and the Lumin offers upsampling that wanted to play around with.  Specifically, I wanted to experiment with upsampling to DSD.

I was doing my testing using the 24/96 recording of Steven Wilson/Hand Cannot Erase that exists on USB connected storage (connected directly to the Lumin).  I can upsample to DSD 64 just fine.

However, all attempts at upsampling and playback to DSD 128 and DSD 256 do not work.  No sound at all.  It seems to only function using DSD 64.

Any idea what I could be missing here?  Is it a restriction with using optical?

Thanks for any and all help/suggestions.

Exactly.
The max. sample rate (PCM) AES, SPDIF-Coax and -Optical by design can transfer is 192 kHz.
This equals DSD 64.

Use USB interconnect instead.

Lumin U2 Mini-Spezification:

USB:
Native DSD512-Support
PCM 44,1-768kHz, 16-32-bit, Stereo

Optical, Coaxial RCA, Coaxial BNC & AES/EBU:
DSD64 (DoP64, DSD über PCM)
PCM 44,1kHz-192kHz, 16-24-Bit

If there‘s a option, try USB interconnect.

Ah, ok.  Perfect.  The Lumin has 2 USB interconnects, so i'm going to give this a shot.  Thanks!

That did the trick, thanks again!
