Topic: ADI-2 Series device w/ two Mic/Line inputs

Dear RME... or anyone "in the know".

A bit of an audacious question, but how likely is it that we will see an ADI-2 series device with a couple of mic/line inputs? I'm asking because a) it seems like a logical addition to the range, and b) I want one.

Of course, I'm assuming there is space inside the box for a couple of microphone preamps.

It would be cool, I've imagined a similar box before, but I think the hint is in the naming, they are focusing on DAC rather than ADC tech with this range.

I can say the combo of a Pro 2/4 SE and the Elysia Skulptur Qube make an absolutely awesome recording front end though! Both similar size and weight, very portable. Both insanely versatile. Both focus mostly on absolutely pure signal chain with transparent sound. Both German engineering. smile Have used mine with electric guitar and bass DI, amp sims, stereo mics for acoustic guitar, synths, drum machines etc.

I think that is what the Babyface pro fs is. Only thing is that the phones amp is a little less powerful, but still plenty for Sennheiser hd600.
Or indeed get an Adi2 of your liking plus a mic preamp.

@MC

On ADI-2/4 Pro SE, if we could switch off the RIAA EQ while keeping the gain steps it would make for a nice Mic-Pre.

Even ADI-2 Pro, with higher digital input gain, would do.

Typical studio vocal recordings with Tube or Solid State Large Diaphragm Condenser mics just need some 30 dB of gain - and  ADI-2’s self noise is lower than the mic’s (ca. -115 dBu A-weighted, absolute) anyway.

Tube mics have their own PSU and can readily be plugged in, for P48 powered mics external supplies are obtainable, easy and inexpensive.

My wish, a pure 2 channel analog mic Pre-Amp (bit like the Elisya I suppose), but in the same form factor / aesthetic of the ADI-2 Pro FS R BE and RME secret sauce like totalmix integration. No converters, no sound card,  no phones out, no clock, just RME quality Mic in, with phantom power option, line out which you can plug in the ADI-2 Pro line in. Perhaps even side by side mountable to a 1U 19” unit. Below €1k?

In your described setup TM FX makes no sense. You only have 2 analog inputs and outputs, not more.

Mic1------- your device----AN1out--------------AN1in---ADI-2 Pro FS -------USB-----PC---
Mic2-------   "       "     -----AN2out--------------AN2in-----"      "     "

                 ^^^^^^^
At this new device which has only
analog I/O TotalMix FX makes no sense.
You would need at least USB to control it.
And even if it would have USB ... what
routing do you want to control here???
If you want routing etc, then you need
                 it at the ADI-2 Pro---------------------------------^^^^
But here RME told already, that the ADI-2 series won't get TM FX.
You get TM FX with a combination of recording interface and reference converter.

You are thinking about a half RME Quadmic (https://www.rme-audio.de/de_quadmic-ii.html)?
