Topic: new to RME, a couple questions

new to the rme lineup! i just got the ucx 2 used and my total mix window has all the settings from the seller's setup - is there anything i need to do to register my device?

also, the device name and all I/O have an (1) next to it, like its a duplicate - how can i do a fresh reset to get rid of that? (going to options > reset mix didn't work)

thanks in advance! i'm coming from uad and i like the change so far!

Re: new to RME, a couple questions

More details about the setup, please... Mac or PC?
Where do you see the (1)?
What exactly would you like to "register"?

Re: new to RME, a couple questions

Hi there, thanks for the quick reply.
PC! I see the (1) on every I/O (listed in reaper) and also in the top right of Total Mix FX where it names your interface.

—I'm now having the problem of not seeing the driver listed in Windows sound? I can run everything fine in Reaper, but not in windows apps. I can see it in device manager, under connected devices I only see this:

So, I got the windows apps to working by changing WDM devices to 10.
Still not sure about the (1)'s all over the place, looks like its setup for 2 devices and this is a copy? Idk

Re: new to RME, a couple questions

If one has more RME devices (that use the same driver), they are numbered 1, 2, 3...

Yea? I thought so. The previous owner probably had more than one. I just need to know how to rename them all..

Re: new to RME, a couple questions

No. There is numbering only, if you have more connected.

Re: new to RME, a couple questions

If it helps, I have a ""(1)" next to my one and only RME product, a Digiface USB.

In TotalMix/FX you can do a reset of the workspace then save that to the device (I believe that's right for UCX II) -  you can also delete the XML files in your AppData folder to nuke all the TotalMix settings.

The "(1)"s all over the place don't bother you? I tried the Nuke option - it didn't work! How do you reset a workspace? They're all listed as blank in my setup.

Its IMHO no problem to have the number there, usually you do not even see it in TM FX.
This you can see on the left side of the screenshot, where you could select different recording interfaces ("instances") in TM FX.

If you do not want to have an indication that something changed on login, then use the setting, that the last remembered setting from PC should be used.

thank you for your detailed response. i have selected all the settings you recommended.
i still don't like to see the (1) listed when there is no (2) on my setup. it makes sense on your setup. but i guess it is required? oh well.

while i have you, is RME's db output dbFS? TMFX shows db and rms from what I am seeing, but the front of the UCX II only shows one, i think its rms?? is there a way to change this?

also is there a way to change the meters in totalmix to show what level its actually achieving with peak? right now all i can see is unity (0) on my meters:
