Topic: A challenge for Babyface PRO

Hi,

I apologize in advance for what may be a dumb question. I'm new to working with external hardware, so I can't find an answer to the question.

I have Babyface PRO. I want to buy a GFI System Specular Tempus effects pedal and use it as an external effect inside Ableton Live (something similar to this video: https://youtu.be/nS9J655pRxw). The problem is that my interface has three outputs that connected to monitors and headphones. Another input is connected to a microphone.

I watched this video https://youtu.be/dNaKUKZEmUU. Author says that four outputs are needed as minimum.

Does this mean that I need to somehow expand the number of Babyface PRO outputs? But how to do this on a low budget?

It seems that it was a mistake that I bought an interface with a limited number of outputs.

You may cancel the headphone or the monitor speakers..
Your monitors don't have an optical input ? You could use the adat output of the Babyface

This device would be a low-budget solution for connecting the monitor speakers or the effect unit

You could use the headphone output as analog output, but then you can't use it for phones anymore.
Better to add a Behringer ADA8200 via ADAT, which costs around €219.

I would have recommended you to get an UCX II which has more analog I/O and inputs and other cool features.
- Regarding mic inputs the quality of an UFX II.
- DURec
- Autoset
- AES port
- USB port for directly connecting ARC USB in stand-alone mode
- Mic inputs with 75 dB gain.
- the possibility to use all analog I/O with sample rates up to 192 kHz without loss of channels (which you have when using ADAT by port multiplexing, when e.g. recording at double speed)

By this, you would have had the RME quality for all analog I/O from the beginning and other cool features.
Only a little pricier, but worth the money.
BBF Pro FS + ADA8200: €888 + €219 = €1107
UCX II = €1379

You might have still the opportunity to sell, get around 80% of street price depending on age / condition of the unit and whether you have the original packaging (ok a little loss) and get the UCX II.

One of the reasons why I usually recommend "do not buy too small".

As a quick solution, I'm considering your advice to use the headphone output (since Babyface pro has a spare headphone output (3.5 mm)).

Thank you. I'll probably try using the headphone output. I don’t know yet whether I will need the so-called Reamp Box? I don't understand what this is and what it is for..

Only to be on the safe side, you know that the two headphone outputs share on output fader in TM FX?
Turning up and down the volume for your connected headphones would also change the output level to the external device.
So this is only a solution for you if you do not need headphones all the time.

A solution for this would be to use a headphone extension cable with a volume control. What you should also pay attention to is that the 2nd headphone output with the small jack plug has a lower output power.

I didn't think of that. Then that option doesn't work for me.

Then the solution proposed by waedi seems better and will not require a lot of money.
