Topic: Synchronizing clock

I need to synchronize multiple devices. Most of them by RME (FF UCX, FF 802, Digiface USB and OctaMic-D) and Eventide (Eclipse and H8000).

So far I have used ADAT for distributing clock. But after the purchase of  OctaMic-D, I need to distribute clock to OctaMix and I will use WC. (I know OM-D might be clock source, but it will be on only if needed, so it cannot be the master).

And if using WC for  OM-D, I might buy more cables and use it for the rest/most other devices.

So, my question is.... Does WC provide better (more precise) clocking than ADAT? I know that for RME devices it probably does not matter much (or at all) as all my devices have SteadyClock, but what about Eventides? Might be WC clocking be better choice than ADAT clocking?

Just theoretically, if one compares ADAT and WC clocking in general..... I will have short cables.

OK. I have got response on Eventide forum from their engineer. It should be the same for their units. Also, jitter matters only in A/D and D/A, not within digital chain, if there are not severe clocking problems and loss of samples....

So, would using World Clock instead of ADAT clocking bring any benefit if used for units that do A/D or D/A? Units are close to each other, just few feet.

No not at all, if I remember correctly MC posted once that adat is a little bit better even.
Also optical is immune to ground loops and other electrical problems.
The one big plus for WC is that it is universal and also works for video devices.

Another solution would be, to connect the octamic to the device that is clock master and switch that device to slave to the octa only when it is on.

Sure optical ADAT avoids danger of ground loops.

Yes, it is what came to my mind. I will use 802 for clocking Octamic using WC, if not recording. And use Octamic as master when the best possible A/D on Octamic is desired.
