Topic: HDSP 9632 in 2023...works like a charm!!

Yes!!

I 've, finally, built my backup system incorporating my beloved HDSP 9632(which I have since 2012)!!

So, for anyone interested in building a cheaper system for Professional Audio Quality, here is what components I used:

PC
MoBo: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R(Rev. 1.7)  -  Link:  https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA … -rev-17#ov
CPU: Intel i7 920 @ 2.67GHz (4 cores, 8 Logical Processors)
GPU : AMD Sapphire R7 240  -  Link: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/r … -240.c2463    *
             AMD Sapphire R7 260X OC  -  Link:  https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/s … 1-gb.b2717     **
RAM : 4GB DDR3 (going to upgrade to 16)
OS : Win10 Pro Build 19045(fully updated)

* Does NOT run DigiCheck NG
** DOES run DigiCheck NG !! (more on this on the DigiCheck NG thread)

HDSP 9632
- Firmware: 155
- Driver: 4.46

So, I guess another Big THANK YOU to RME is due!!! smile

Re: HDSP 9632 in 2023...works like a charm!!

I just build a system around a p8p67 and 2600k for same reason. These run happily at 4.6ghz oc.ed. so is even very powerful. It cost me 40 euro, mobo cpu 16gb ddr1600 and tower cooler. Running perfectly with both hdsp and or Babyface pro fs. And it has AVX my main reason to upgrade from p5q with q9650 at 4ghz which is pretty powerfull too. Only more then 4 cores make a PC really more powerful. I have a 6 core laptop at 4.4 ghz a 1070 i7 and it is roughly 1.5 times the processing power of my very old 4 core.

Re: HDSP 9632 in 2023...works like a charm!!

Must get another ex58 motherboard as I’ve got the cooler a 960 chip, 18gig of memory and a PSU. The motherboard died a few weeks ago. I could do with it as my backup pc.

Babyface Pro Fs, Behringer ADA8200, win 10/11 PCs, Cubase/Wavelab, Adam A7X monitors.

Niiice!!
I got the above components, along with a beefy cooler, 250Gb SSD and 400W PSU for 50euros!
All used, of course, but, I don't care!! To be able to buy such a good and stable system, for so little money, is very-very cool !!

Myself, I haven't overclocked it, yet, but I will in the near future! smile

Yeah, it makes for a very good and stable system, for a backup one!
I, also, needed mine for internet duties and to be able to enjoy internet music and videos through the 9632 and my studio monitors!!
Up untill now, I was using a laptop and a pair of small Creative speakers, for internet browsing!
So, now, I 'm very happy!! smile

The 2500 and 2600k are known for their easy and very high clocks. Its just upping the multiplier.
This is my production machine with a BF pro fs.

Aah, very nice!!!

Now, you got me thinking and I researched my MoBo 's socket, a bit more! smile
I found out that I can fit a Xeon X5650! And these go around 50euros, too!!  (At the end of the article, here: https://cpu-socket.com/cpu-list-lga1366/

It can go, easily, above 4GHz and it 's a six-core processor!! Good times!! smile

Re: HDSP 9632 in 2023...works like a charm!!

Why did you buy such an archaic machine? I build a desktop with one of the last PCI motherboards (Z370 platform) back in 2018, still going strong and twice the amount of CPU cores, much better everything spec wise. Fried the 9632 somehow though, upgraded to RayDat and never going back big_smile

Re: HDSP 9632 in 2023...works like a charm!!

Who are you asking?
If me, money and my p5q (p45 chipset) with quad core at 4ghz was still enough. I was only missing AVX for 1 or 2 plugins that need it. Then someone send me a 2500k by mistake and I found a cheap mobo for it. Liked it.
I also have a recent laptop, with a 10th gen intel with 6 cores at 4.4ghz and performance wise it is about 1.5x the old quad. so just the number of cores makes the difference, not the generation imho.
Yes 8, 12 or 16 cores at +4ghz would have a big impact for me.

Re: HDSP 9632 in 2023...works like a charm!!

But not in case it is 8, 12 or 16 of Intel post 11th gen (or Apple Silicon). Those e-cores are the "devil´s gift"... At least for time critical tasks.

Because it was very cheap!! smile
And the MoBo, at least, was aimed towards the high-end CPUs, at its time of manufacture!
Now, being able to install a Xeon, for 50euros more, is a big plus!! smile

But, as I said, I got it for internet duties, backup recording workstation and multimedia PC, so I can enjoy heavenly RME conversion through my main studio monitors!! smile
My main PC, which I keep offline, consists of a Ryzen 5 2600, X470 MoBo, 16Gb RAM@3200MHz and my DF Usb!

I posted about it here, for a few reasons:
- to thank RME for continuous support and let them know that everything works like a charm in older systems!
- to let other people who might not have the budget for the more expensive PCs and audio Interfaces that they
can, still, build a system(for little money) with a Pro Audio Interface, and record in high quality standards!
- to inform users of older systems that DC NG runs like a charm in older systems with an old GPU(that supports DirectX 12, fully)
- and share my joy with the fellow forum members!! smile
- and perhaps get any recommendations, which I did!! Thanks at you, as well, for the Z370(I might upgrade in later years)
