Topic: Connectivity question

I have an ancient Fireface UC which I'd like to use on Mac M2 and I'm looking for bidirectional 8x Adat channel operation in between the Mac and an iPad, will this work if I purchase a UCX II or a Babyface Pro for the iPad ?

Re: Connectivity question

yes

And with a Digiface as well from iPad's end?

Re: Connectivity question

Yes, and Totalmix FX App from the Appstore will be the perfect helper for the routing on the iPad side.

Digiface USB? No, this one has no class compliant mode and doesn’t work on the iPad!

The Totalmix FX App is for Class Compliant only ?
My bad, sorry, I thought it's driver-mode, thanks Oli for clearing this up.

On iPad, there is only class compliant audio hardware working at all. There are no native drivers for iOS.

Re: Connectivity question

thank you for clearing that up! on that note, what would be the most portable and class compliant option for this application? "bidirectional operation on 8 channels in between iPad and a Mac" preferably ADAT only and otherwise also with analogue i/o's.

Re: Connectivity question

Babyface original and Babyface Pro and Pro FS, lightweight, small and buspowered

Good to know, I also have a native 10g ethernet port on the Mac, would the DigiFace AVB be a solution to run from the iPad to the mac ?

It depends on your budget and demands. An UCX II might also be in scope, depending on your use cases.
Small form factor, recording interface that does not need to be power conservative, as it has its own PSU.
Therefore, more powerful headphone outputs and more features like Autoset, DURec, display.
Also supports Class Compliant mode for such operation the display is useful.

Buspowered only on computer, not on iPad
