Topic: Trouble connecting two devices on OSX Sonoma

Hello there

I have a Fireface UFX II and a Digiface, both were connected to my Mac running Big Sur, and linked together via ADAT. The Fireface is used for recording (inputs and monitoring etc.), and through the Digiface, two web-streams with different submixes are routed.

Now, I have a new computer with OSX Sonoma, and I'm having trouble getting it to work. The Mac only recognizes one of the two devices (sometimes the ufx, sometimes the digiface). Although the other is displayed in Totalmix, I can't select it in the system or the DAW. I've tried several drivers, but after a restart, only one of the two devices is recognized again. Even when reinserting the device (disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable), it doesn't show up.

Can anyone help me with this? Do I need to use an different (older) driver?
Everything worked so smoothly with Big Sur, but now...

Thanks for your help!

Have you created an aggregate-device in the Audio-Midi-Setup in MacOS ?

As the second device doesn't appear in the system, it also doesn't show up in the Audio-Midi Setup...

What 'Digiface' is that exactly? Which driver version is used?

Re: Trouble connecting two devices on OSX Sonoma

It's the Digiface USB. Driver v. 4.10.

Would you recommend another driver?

Both are displayed (see pictures), but only one of them works and appears in the system / IO / Audio-Midi-Setup...

Re: Trouble connecting two devices on OSX Sonoma

in Totalmix menu File - New TotalMix Window  select the other interface
Two interface have two separate Totalmix windows.
Check afterwards in the Audio-Midi-Setup if both interfaces are available.
The driver is correct.

I know... Unfortunately, it still doesn't work after that. It shows both in Totalmix, and even when the two devices are open in separate windows, only one is recognized in the system.

Another thing worth noting is that if, for example, I plug in the Digiface after the computer starts, it is not detected. It's only recognized when it's plugged in during startup (with both devices connected), or when the Fireface is not connected (then everything is "normal").

Re: Trouble connecting two devices on OSX Sonoma

My Digiface USB get detected all the time, I can disconnect and replug it when the computer is running, no problem.
Sure the firmware is up to date ?

Yes, that's how it should normally be.
The firmware of the Digiface USB is 'v35'.

Re: Trouble connecting two devices on OSX Sonoma

Interesting...
Mine says 18
and the FUT says it's up to date

Re: Trouble connecting two devices on OSX Sonoma

In the Flash Update Tool from 2024-01-17, there are two versions:

Digiface USB, Hw Rev X: 18
Digiface USB, Hw Rev G: 35

It should automatically select the correct version with the hardware!?

Re: Trouble connecting two devices on OSX Sonoma

I used the same FUT but had no selection, it opened that window straight away.
May be your device is another hardware than mine and the FUT automatic make it's work.
I think there is nothing wrong with your unit, there might be a difference in the computer system somewhere deep underground.
MacOS is up-to-date
RME driver is up-to-date
Interface firmware is up-to-date (if the FUT tells so)
Let's hope the next Sonoma update will fix it.

Re: Trouble connecting two devices on OSX Sonoma

Yes, that could be the case, but it's definitely not an issue with the Digiface. When I restart the computer only with the Digiface, the Digiface works perfectly. However, I can't get the UFX to work in that scenario. Even turning the UFX off and on doesn't make it appear in the system. It seems like only one device is functioning at a time, and that doesn't make sense somehow... right?
