Topic: Motor faders on Apple M series, BCF 2000 no longer working

Hey,

we recently replaced our old iMac with a new M3 and the BCF 2000 is no longer working in Mackie Control Mode.

We are using the same Total Mix Workspace as on the old iMac, everything is configured correctly. Moving a hardware fader on the BCF 2000 will move the corresponding software fader in Total Mix, but when removing the finger from it, the motor fader jumps back to the bottom while the software fader stays. When moving a software fader nothing happens on the BCF 2000.

I searched the web and this seems a widespread issues on M1 and later Macs. Anyone got it working?
Or is there an alternative motor fader surface which works?

Thanks!

Sure you use the 64bit USB driver and the new firmware 1.1 ?

Yes, the BCF 2000 is on Firmware 1.10.
I also tried connecting in S4 Standalone mode with Midi cables to the ports of the UFX II with the same result.
Anyone had success?

The motorfaders need some Midi-signals for adapting to, right ?
Do you have a midi monitor software ?
On Mac there is Midi-Monitor and on Windows it's Midi-View both freeware.
It shows you all Midi traffic of the computer inputs and outputs.
Let's find out if Totalmix or the DAW is sending Midi to the BFC ?

- BCF2000 should be connected to 5 pin MIDI I/O with TM FX on to check what is going on

- If used via USB update to the latest Sonoma 14.4.1 which fixed the USB isues of 14.4

Turns out it works fine when plugged to one of the iMac's USB-C-only ports.
It does not work on the Thunderbolt 3 ports, isn't that strange?

Good to know.
Thanks for reporting.
The unit is older than thunderbolt and USB-C and the driver and the user manual need update.
You may tell them...?

Of course ! 100% ! And they don't do it only on first April.

Well yes, I am actually not surprised. Just glad we got the 4-port iMac, as the smaller model only comes with the two Thunderbolt (USB 4) ports.

Fun fact: Our external HDMI screen only works on those Thunderbolt ports, not on the USB-C ports (as they seem to be USB 3.0 in fact, despite the USB-C type connector).
