Topic: Error loading Workspace into different device.

Hello everyone apologies if this has been posted before a quick search didnt find anything.

I am trying to load my saved FF 802 TotalMix's Workspace into the Totalmix of an FF UFX II but getting an error message (attached). Am I doing something wrong or do I need to set up a new TotalMix from start (with the new UFX II device)? I just assumed Totalmix FX files were not dependent on the hardware.

Thanks again!

Re: Error loading Workspace into different device.

They are dependent of the hardware as the number of channels needs to be identical (mixer points and routing capability). In your case the digitally controlled mic gain most probably makes them incompatible.

A new chance to make things tidy wink

What I did on the last rebuild was to make matrix view more usable for me by
- removing all routings (best in matrix view)
- adding only the required routings

This gives a much better overview for matrix view.
At the end of the day this is not really much work.

I also performed TM FX routing from scratch a while ago:
  https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.ph … 61#p192161

Reason was to achieve best integration of external FX with different use cases in mind.
To use Lexicon PCM 81 and 91 either for amps, DAW or both (amps PCM 81, DAW PCM 91).
I am also using the UFX III as parallel FX loop for the Marshall amps in stereo setup:
  https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.ph … 00#p192400

For you and others the short form here as an appetizer (from memory)

0.1 as a prerequisite, perform a total reset of TM FX
0.2 Assign HW output channels to the TM FX Control room (Main out, Phones1, ...)
0.3 store this to
    - TM FX Snapshot #8        "Total Reset"
    - TM FX Layout Preset #6 "Factory"

Using Layout Preset is nice, then you can switch between e.g. "Factory" and "Used Channels".

1.1 make sure you are in TM FX submix mode
1.2 mute all HW inputs to exclude any potential noise from not connected inputs

2.1 select the HW output for your active monitors in submix mode
2.2 raise the faders of all SW playback channels that you would like to hear on your active monitors.

[See below (*) which channels I use on my PC as SW playbacks]

3.1 select the HW output for your headphones in submix mode
3.2 raise the faders of all SW playback channels that you would like to hear on your headphones, usually the same SW playbacks like in step 2.2

4.1 In "Channel Layout" hide all HW inputs, SW playbacks, HW Outputs that you do not use
4.2 Save this to Layout Preset #1 "Used Ch"

5.1 Select "Main Out" and store this to Snapshot#1 "Main Out"
5.2 Mute "Main Out" and store this to Snapshot#2 "Phones"

Now you can easily switch between Main Out and Phones.
If you look to matrix view, you have a more clean look & feel, because you only see those channels which are not hidden (-> Channel Layout)

(*) I am using the following audio channels on my PC (with "TM FX name")

- SW playback AN 1/2   "OS" for Windows audio
- SW playback AN 3/4   "MBee" for MusicBee (Windows audio player with ASIO support)
- SW playback AN 5/6    "Cub PCM 81" for ext FX unit #1 Lexicon PCM 81 (usually for Guitar)
- SW playback AN 7/8    "Cub PCM 91" for ext FX unit #2 Lexicon PCM 91 (usually for DAW)
- SW playback PH 9/10  "Games" for Games that support setting of audio channel
- SW playback PH 11/12 "DAW Sum" for the DAW main output ("sum")

If you want to have different subgroups in the DAW to be able to create more worked out headphones mixes in TotalMix FX:

- SW playback AES            "Guit Solo" Solo guitar
- SW playback ADAT1/2     "Guit Rhy" Rhythm guitar
- SW playback ADAT3/4     "Drums"
- SW playback ADAT5/6     "Bass"
- SW playback ADAT7/8     "Keyb"
- SW playback ADAT9/10   "Vocals"
- SW playback ADAT11/12 "BVocals"
- SW playback ADAT13/14 "BVocals"
