Topic: Fireface series power supply isussues

Have read here about power supply issues with these devices. What is its expected lifespan? In other words, when you have to start preparing for a power supply replacement. 5 years, 8 years 10 years...?? And what kind of costs must be prepared for?

From own experience, one of five devices had a dead psu after 12 years, the repair was no problem, a few days, cost was less than 160.-CHF, it was an ADI-8 QS.

Pretty reasonable. It would be wise to leave space above and below the side if it is in a rack, so that it cools better.

Yes, heat dissipation is an important aspect in the studio.

The cost for a PSU for a 19" unit around €100.
Then the typical cost for a technician, around €80/h.

Turning on/off creates most stress for units. Leave space between devices to enable for a little air flow so that heat doesn't pile up between devices, as you mentioned already.

Start with a repair budget of €100-200. Pay €5 or 10 monthly by standing order, then if you're lucky, you'll also get some interest, and after the first replacement, you'll already have a reserve for repairing the next device. When does something break anyway? And if it does, it's usually just one device.
