Topic: Feature Request: EQ change tied to sample rate

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

As MC has posted, the DA NOS and Slow filters exhibit a slightly rolled off response at extreme high frequencies at 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz. He also posted compensation EQs for that. Many thanks. I don't have the post at hand, but here's a quote:

"At 44.1 kHz sample rate:
Compensation for Slow filter B5 G +4.0 F 16.5k Q 2.1 Shelf

Compensation for NOS filter B5 G +3.0 F 14.3k Q 0.6 Shelf

At 48 kHz rate:

Slow B5 G +2.5 F 16.3k Q 1.7 Shelf
NOS B5 G +3.5 F 16.5k Q 0.9 Shelf"

Above 48k the DA filters have no effect in the audible band.

I've implemented these filters in addition to some of my headphone filters. I wonder if it would be useful to some if a certain eq preset could be engaged when the sample rate switches to 44.1 k and 48k. Is it worth the effort? Could be a complex programming job and to debug. But it doesn't hurt to ask :-)

Good idea. It makes sense to use the filters only when a correction of the treble roll off in the audible range is required, and the filters are different for 44.1 and 48 kHz.

Although it is a different topic, it is similar to the idea behind Bitsum's Windows tool “Process Lasso Pro”. Here, the desired Windows energy profile is automatically selected depending on the running application.

Yes, that would indeed be very useful.

Re: Feature Request: EQ change tied to sample rate

Taking the idea one step further into a (to my knowledge) unique, absolutely useful, easy to handle extra feature:

An, independent from regular PEQ, “Filter Compensation EQ” for each filter and sample rate, with automatic switching, could be implemented.

From the user interface side, with the switch of one menu button the option would be activated.

Such an EQ could be more precisely tailored and even extend the linear range far beyond the audio band (with higher sample rates).

This could even improve on the ADI-2 Pro as measurement frontend for HiRes, reducing the need for an extra measurement system’s calibration.

A while ago I made the suggestion here that the DA filters should change automatically with the sample rate. For example, fast filters up to 48khz and slow filters above that. But the idea with the filter compensation EQ is even better! smile

the only disadvantage would be the phase shift with such a compensation...
