Topic: UCX-II ADAT LockSync with OctaMic XTC problem

Hi all,

my UCX-II is (in CC-mode) set to INT @ 48 kHz (master) and OctaMic XTC uses clock source ADAT (slave), sample rate 48 kHz. There is no WCK connection. Octa's state ADAT is lit up constantly in green and its display shows "ADAT 48.0" all the time, but UCX-II's ADAT LockSync status does blink sporadically, and am getting clicks into the recording. I don't know what am I doing wrong.

When I connect old ADI-2 1st-gen to the UCX-II in the same way (same cabling), there are no problems. ADI's Clock set to Input OPT, Output to ADAT, UCX Opt. out ADAT, clock INT - no blinking, no clicks.

When I connect OctaMic XTC to my old BabyFace 1st-gen (also CC-mode) where BF is set to Master 48 kHz, Octa displays "ADAT 47.9" to "ADAT 48.4", BF lits Sync constantly, no blinking... side question: what's the matter with Octa not showing ADAT straight 48.0?

Main concern is UCX not working with XTC. FW versions: UCX-II 106/34/104 , XTC 26/47
All mentioned ADAT connection are bi-directional: 1st toslink cable connecting ADAT master out -> slave in, 2nd cable slave out -> master in.
Problem persist even on USB mode (not CC), or stand-alone.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Re: UCX-II ADAT LockSync with OctaMic XTC problem

What I would try :
Make clock-mode of the XTC internal 48kHz
Connect two toslink cables two-way
Let the Babyface use Auto-Sync for clock sync.
Auto-Sync is the default setting, without further settings it will stay in Auto-Sync and sync to the XTC will work.

Many thanks for chiming in. Sorry I edited my question above and added there were two cables in all connections. BF in AutoSync as slave connected to XTC as master yields also other sample rates as 48.0 being displayed on the XTC. Strange... but that doesn't bother me much. UCX2 recording clicks from XTC's INs renders the setup unusable.

Tried XTC as master with INT 48.0, UCX2 as slave with Clock Source OPT - the UCX did get sample rate of 48 just fine, but its ADAT Lock/Sync status still blinking. No clue... I might get a BNC 75 ohm cable to try WCK workaround. But still... a pair of toslink cables should do.

Re: UCX-II ADAT LockSync with OctaMic XTC problem

I resolved the issue on my own. It was necessary to use RME-supplied optical cables (part. No. TT-2-PP-2) and with those ADAT SyncLock does work between UCX-II and OctaMic XTC.
Strange, why my other optical cables do work with other device combinations, but not the two.
