Topic: RME ADI-2 DAC SMPS sounds like car alarm

Hi,

I own an RME ADI-2 DAC and the SMPS sounds like a faint car alarm sound audible at about 1m away (it's night time and our neighbourhood is very quiet).
Does it need replacing?

Most switched mode power supplies do this more or less.

I guess it’s when your ADI is off?

If it’s annoying, you could either ask for a replacement - but don’t expect this to completely disappear - or use a switched power strip to turn it off.

You're right, it's noisy when the DAC is on stand-by.
I'll get a replacement from Mean Well.

Same here with ADI-2 PRO FS R SMPS, when the unit is off.

It is not audible at about 1m away but when I put my ear on the SMPS yes it really sounds like car alarm....

Up until yesterday I had my ADI-2 DAC FS but didn't put my ear on the SMPS, my ADI-2 PRO FS R is store demo so I think that it was working like this for some time without any issue.

The SMPS of my SSL SIX also have noises so as KaiS say

Im assuming this is normal...?

I was curious and listened to my RME DAC , in standby mode, with ear next to  the power device. I heard slightly audible sound but no audible sound at all 4 inches away from the device.
Normally I do not use standby mode, for any device, but a power strip distributor with on/off switch. No noise when powered.

Yes it is only audible when putting ears on top of the SMPS in standby mode, it sounds exactly like tuga recorded...
