Topic: Total Mix newbie question - Routing a send and direct monitoring

I'm sure I'm overlooking something very simple, but I can't turn off the direct monitoring on a channel, without it affecting the send. Also, it's pretty hard to describe, so feel free to ask for clarification if needed.

Here's the situation: I use a Digiface with 4x ADA8200 and Ableton. I run a synthesizer signal from the DAW to an output of one of the ADA's. That signal goes to an effectpedal. That signal routes back to another input in another ADA and back in my DAW. Easy so far.

But I keep hearing that synth signal also as direct monitoring. Here's the setup.

So the moment I turn down software playback 3/4 (the synth going to the pedal), the signal chain mutes (1/2 is my main monitoring), the signal stops going to the Microcosm and that channel mutes entirely (unless I disable the External FX device in Ableton, then I have my normal signal).

How do I disable that direct monitoring without disabling the entire signal path?

You have to click on Out 1/2 control. It becomes lighter color like Out 3/4 is on your picture. And set using Ins and Software Playbacks faders what you want to monitor.

THANK YOU!

It wasn't exactly that (or maybe it was, but I understood incorrectly), but it got me thinking. I never knew that that when selecting an output, there was a whole new fader 'status quo'. So my main out is PH, I selected that and turned down the fader of ADAT3/4.
