Topic: UCX II as a field recorder/power ??’s

Hey,

Finally subscribed to the forum…

Could someone confirm that it’s possible to use the UCX II as a field recorder with a battery pack? I have a 2A usb battery that I was thinking of using through a usb to dc cable, would that give enough juice for at least an hour? Also, couldn’t yet find other specs for the dc jack than that it’s center positive…

Thanks in advance!

9 - 18 volt DC, center pin positive, should be enough info to find a suitable power, right ? 2A is sufficient.
With a normal powerpack an hour recording should be no problem.

It is also important to get a good working recording media, see this thread:

All the specs are in the manual (not sure how this can't be found). The DC jack will not work with 5 V.

Also 2 A is not the important specification. For one hour runtime of the UCX you need 12 V x 1 A = 12 Wh plus some overhead, so at least 15 Wh, which equals power banks (with 12 V output!) of 5.000 mAh (which is a rather small value). So check the capacity of your battery.

An alternative is to get a PD supporting powerbank with USB-C output and a special PD cable USB-C to DC jack with 12 V coding.

Thanks all for the info’s, really appreciate it!

Just started searching about this (with limited time..). Browsed the manual and did some searches. Was still unclear about it. Sorry for asking… Still unclear about what are the measures of the dc plug.

So far I’ve mostly used it as a complementary dawless recorder, recording the mix straight from r2r (monitoring the recording from playback head) to a usb drive. I shall study the recommendations, so far no problems with ’pedestrian’ Kingston and Verbatim drives @96/32 though.

This is the official RME power supply :

The plug has 5.5mm outer diameter and 2,1mm inner
And the plug has special winglets for the locking feature.

Thanks for that, saved me some time!

Doh, didn’t remember they sold those separately (of course, they do..).

I think I got the hang of it now. Hopefully someone else finds this query useful…
