Topic: TotalMix doesn't open - Fireface800

Hello all,

I recently purchased an RME Fireface800 and downloaded the corresponding Driver but I just can't get Totalmix to open sad
Like I double click, the name of Totalmix show up on the top left like I'm in the program but there is no window.
I can click on File>>New TotalMix Window but no Device shows up here in the left box and clicking on either "New Mixer window" or "New Matric Window" doesn't do anything.

I'm working on a Mac M1 Max processor and wondering if that could be the cause but there is a driver for M1 and up.

I am connecting the Firewire 800 cable with 2 adaptors to my Mac: 1/ FW800 to Thunderbolt2 & Thunderbolt 2 to USB C (thunderbolt 3) - both are Apple adapters. Plugging it directly into a usbc port seems to do be ok for connectivity because when I plug it into another multihub, my Mac tells me that it cannot identify the divice (but all good when plugged directly to the Mac).

I reinstalled the driver etc but nothing seems to help.

Thanks for your advice.
Max

In MacOS system preferences / Security & Privacy / Microphone
is Totalmix listed and enabled ? It should.

Hi
Did you went through the whole installation process as described on the RME website? Recovery mode - reduced security and all this?

General checklist:
It’s a matter of checking a few things:
1.    Check if you see the device in the System report of the Mac under USB/Thunderbolt/Firewire. This is independent on the driver. Here a few examples how it should look like when devices are connected:
USB:https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/5f622be6 … t&dl=0
Thunderbolt/Firewire: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/t7t9npnp … j&dl=0
Firewire:https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/kat01m7o … w&dl=0
Thunderbolt/PCIe: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/ayd1kup7 … b&dl=0

If it’s not there, you should check the connections. Especially nowadays with the USB-C type hubs, there are many problems. Make sure that you first connect to the Mac directly. You can later test the hub when the driver is successfully installed.

2.    Check if the USB device is in Class compliant mode. If so, the device is visible in the Audio Midi setup, but TotalMix will not start. Solution; Set the device back to normal mode.
3.    If point 1 is true, reinstall the correct driver and make sure you allow the driver in the privacy and security settings in time. After 30 minutes you need to reinstall the driver again.
4.    Some old devices need a firmware update before they work with the Driverkit driver (v4.xx). But they always do work with the kernel extension driver (v3.xx)

Sorry to say that, but related to a Fireface 800 this is not very helpful. Beside that, two of the Dropbox links are faulty (the ones for USB and FireWire).

Mac mini M1 - Macbook pro - iPad Air2

Re: TotalMix doesn't open - Fireface800

I have corrected the links.
For your Fireface 800:
1. Check if you see the device in the System report of the Mac under Thunderbolt/Firewire.
Thunderbolt/Firewire: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/t7t9npnp … j&dl=0
Firewire: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/kat01m7o … w&dl=0

If it’s not there, you should check the connections. Especially nowadays with the USB-C/Firewire type hubs, there are many problems.

3.    If point 1 is true, reinstall the correct driver and make sure you allow the driver in the privacy and security settings in time. After 30 minutes you need to reinstall the driver again.
